Standardized Patient Simulation

Standardized Patient Simulation is a medical education method in which trained individuals consistently portray patients with defined symptoms, histories, emotions, and clinical concerns. Learners interview and examine these simulated patients in realistic encounters, then receive structured feedback or performance ratings based on communication, clinical reasoning, history-taking, and examination skills. The approach supports deliberate practice without placing real patients at risk and can be repeated under comparable conditions for formative assessment or objective structured clinical examinations. It also helps educators evaluate how students integrate medical knowledge with empathy, professionalism, and shared decision-making before entering clinical practice.

2012

Patients with visual deficits after stroke report about different constraints in daily life most likely due to variable compensatory strategies, which are difficult to differentiate in clinical routine. We present a clinical set-up which allows measurement of different compensatory head- and eye-movement-strategies and evaluating their effects on driving performance.

2023

Source: Joseph C. Muskat, Vitaliy L. Rayz, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana The objective of this video is to describe recent advancements of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations based on patient- or animal-specific vasculature. Here, subject-based vessel segmentations were created, and, using a combination of open-source and commercial tools, a high-resolution numerical solution was determined within a flow model.
