Unfavorable Cervix

An unfavorable cervix is an obstetric finding in which the cervix is not yet prepared for labor or induction, indicating a lower likelihood of successful vaginal delivery without cervical ripening. Clinicians assess cervical dilation, effacement, consistency, position, and fetal station using the Bishop score to estimate readiness; a low score generally reflects a firm, closed, posterior cervix with limited effacement. This assessment helps guide decisions about labor induction, including whether prostaglandins or mechanical methods may be appropriate before oxytocin. Evaluating cervical favorability supports individualized management and helps anticipate induction duration and outcomes.

Assessment of Maternal Vascular Remodeling During Pregnancy in the Mouse Uterus

This protocol describes a technique to assess changes in the maternal vasculature during pregnancy in mice. Using stereological methods, remodeling of the decidual spiral arteries is assessed quantitatively and the results confirmed qualitatively using immunohistochemistry.
