Ventilation Heterogeneity Analysis

Ventilation heterogeneity analysis is the assessment of how evenly air is distributed throughout the lungs, an important measure of respiratory function beyond overall airflow. It uses regional or breath-by-breath measurements to identify differences in airway emptying and gas distribution, often by tracking changes in respiratory gases during breathing or washout procedures. In medicine, this analysis can reveal small-airway dysfunction and early abnormalities that may be missed by conventional pulmonary function tests. It supports evaluation of obstructive lung diseases, treatment response, and disease progression, while helping researchers understand how regional ventilation patterns influence gas exchange and clinical outcomes.

Mechanical Ventilation II: Invasive Ventilation

2025

Ventilators are essential medical equipment used to aid patients with respiratory difficulties. Their primary function is to assist or replace spontaneous breathing by providing mechanical ventilation. There are two general classes of mechanical ventilators: negative-pressure and positive-pressure ventilators. Negative-Pressure Ventilators Negative-pressure ventilators create a vacuum around the chest or body to draw air into the lungs, simulating breathing. This method does not require an...

Mechanical Ventilation III: Noninvasive Ventilation

2025

Noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation (NIPPV), continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), and bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) are essential methods in respiratory care. These ventilation techniques offer unique benefits for patients with various respiratory conditions, providing adequate support without requiring intubation. Let's explore how each method is crucial in improving patient outcomes and enhancing respiratory therapy. Noninvasive Positive-Pressure Ventilation (NIPPV)

Here we describe a method to quantify molecular heterogeneity in histological sections of tumor material using quantitative immunofluorescence, image analysis, and a statistical measure of heterogeneity. The method is intended for use in clinical biomarker development and analysis.

A Structured Approach to Extubation in Mechanically Ventilated Rats

2025

This study proposes a structured extubation approach tailored to rat models of mechanical ventilation (MV). The approach facilitates a smooth transition from MV to spontaneous breathing while minimizing extubation-related complications. Standardization of weaning, airway management, and post-extubation care enhances the reliability and reproducibility of experimental studies.

A Novel Rescue Technique for Difficult Intubation and Difficult Ventilation
