Storage Capacity

Storage capacity is the maximum quantity of goods, materials, or inventory that a facility, firm, or supply system can hold under specified physical and operational conditions. In microeconomics, it influences when firms purchase, produce, and sell products because limited space creates holding constraints, while excess capacity can raise storage and maintenance costs. Firms weigh these costs against expected demand, delivery schedules, price changes, and the risk of shortages when choosing inventory levels. Analyzing storage capacity helps explain stockpiling, seasonal supply decisions, warehouse investment, and how logistical constraints affect production costs, market supply, and resource allocation.
