3d Digitizer

A 3D digitizer is a measurement device that records the three-dimensional coordinates of physical points, enabling accurate reconstruction of an object, surface, or anatomical structure. In neuroscience, a handheld stylus or tracked sensor identifies landmarks such as the nasion, preauricular points, and EEG electrode positions relative to a reference frame, while software converts these measurements into spatial data. These coordinates support electrode co-registration with magnetic resonance images, improve alignment between head anatomy and neuroimaging data, and strengthen estimates of neural source locations. By linking recorded signals to individual anatomy, 3D digitization helps researchers obtain more precise and reproducible measurements in brain research.

We demonstrate controlled pattern transformation of swelling gel tubes by elastic instability. A simple projection micro stereo-lithography setup is built using an off-the-shelf digital data projector to fabricate three-dimensional polymeric structures in a layer-by-layer fashion. Swelling hydrogel tubes under mechanical constraint display various circumferential buckling modes depending on dimension.
