Brdu Immunohistochemistry

BrdU immunohistochemistry is a tissue-labeling technique that detects 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine (BrdU) incorporated into newly synthesized DNA, providing a marker of cell proliferation and division. In neuroscience, animals or cells receive BrdU during DNA replication; the analog is incorporated during S phase, and tissue processing with DNA denaturation allows anti-BrdU antibodies to bind and reveal labeled nuclei through a chromogenic or fluorescent signal. Researchers use this method to identify proliferating neural progenitor cells, measure adult neurogenesis, and track the survival or differentiation of newly generated cells in developing, healthy, or injured nervous tissue.
