Cyclic Olefin Copolymer Chips

Cyclic olefin copolymer chips are microfabricated devices made from a transparent, chemically resistant thermoplastic that supports controlled biological experiments. Their patterned microchannels guide fluids through pressure-driven or capillary flow, while the material’s low autofluorescence and optical clarity enable high-resolution imaging of cells and tissues. In neuroscience, these chips can support neuronal cultures, synaptic studies, brain-on-chip models, and investigations of barriers such as the blood-brain barrier. Their small volumes improve control over chemical environments and reduce reagent use, making them valuable for studying neural development, disease mechanisms, drug responses, and complex cell interactions under reproducible laboratory conditions.

Cyclic Voltammetry (CV)

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Kayla Green — Texas Christian University A Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) experiment involves the scan of a range of potential voltages while measuring current. In the CV experiment, the potential of an immersed, stationary electrode is scanned from a predetermined starting potential to a final value (called the switching potential) and then the reverse scan is obtained. This gives a 'cyclic' sweep of potentials and the current vs. potential curve derived from the data is...

2016

The key steps of living anionic polymerization of phenyl glycidyl ether (PheGE) on methoxy-polyethylene glycol (mPEG-b-PPheGE) are described. The resulting block copolymer micelles (BCMs) were loaded with doxorubicin 14% (wt%) and sustained release of drug over 4 days under physiologically relevant conditions was obtained.

Synthesis of Ligand-free CdS Nanoparticles within a Sulfur Copolymer Matrix

Herein we present a method to synthesize ligand-free cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles based on a unique sulfur copolymer. The sulfur copolymer operates as a high temperature solvent and a sulfur source during the nanoparticle synthesis and stabilizes the nanoparticles after the reaction.

Organ-on-Chip Models

2026

Introduction to Organ-on-Chip Models Organ-on-chip models are advanced microphysiological systems that recreate key structural and functional features of human organs in a controlled laboratory setting. These devices integrate living human cells within microfluidic channels, allowing researchers to simulate tissue–tissue interfaces, fluid flow, and mechanical forces that are essential for normal organ function. Unlike traditional cell cultures, which often lack these dynamic physiological cues,...

Solid-state Graft Copolymer Electrolytes for Lithium Battery Applications

2013

Lithium ion batteries employ flammable and volatile organic electrolytes that are suitable for ambient temperature applications. A safer alternative to organic electrolytes are solid polymer batteries. Solid polymer batteries operate safely at high temperatures (>120 °C), thus making them applicable to high temperature applications such as deep oil drilling and hybrid electric vehicles. This paper will discuss (a) the polymer synthesis, (b) the polymer conduction mechanism, and (c) provide...
