Interface Recording Chamber

An interface recording chamber is an electrophysiology apparatus that maintains an acute brain slice at an air–liquid interface while enabling stable measurements of neural activity. The slice rests on a porous support partially exposed to oxygenated artificial cerebrospinal fluid, allowing nutrients and ions to diffuse from below while humidified, carbogen-enriched gas supports oxygenation above; recording electrodes then detect electrical signals from neurons or neural circuits. In neuroscience, this preparation supports extracellular and intracellular recordings of synaptic transmission, network activity, and responses to pharmacological manipulation. Its accessible tissue surface and sustained physiological function make it valuable for investigating circuit mechanisms and disease-related changes in brain activity.

2017

A wireless, bidirectional system for multi-channel neural recordings and stimulation in freely behaving rats is introduced. The system is light and compact, thus having minimal impact on the animal´s behavioral repertoire. Moreover, this bidirectional system provides a sophisticated tool to assess causal relationships between brain activation patterns and behavior.
