Signal Detection Trials

Signal detection trials are experimental tasks that measure how accurately a nervous system or participant distinguishes a meaningful signal from background noise, making them useful for studying perception and decision-making. During each trial, a target may be present or absent, and responses are classified as hits, misses, false alarms, or correct rejections; these outcomes separate sensory sensitivity from response bias. Researchers use signal detection trials to assess visual, auditory, and somatosensory processing, quantify performance with measures such as sensitivity and decision criterion, and examine how attention, neurological conditions, or experimental manipulations influence the detection of behaviorally relevant stimuli.

The Trial Balance

2025

A trial balance is a fundamental financial statement that provides a snapshot of a company's accounts and their balances at a specific point in time. It serves as an essential tool for verifying the accuracy of financial records by ensuring that the total debits equal the total credits. Typically prepared at the end of an accounting period, a trial balance lists all ledger accounts in the order they appear, with debit balances in the left column and credit balances in the right column. The two...

Clinical Trials

2023

Clinical trials are prospective experimental studies conducted on humans to determine the safety and efficacy of treatments, drugs, diet methods, and medical devices. Using statistics in clinical trials enables researchers to derive reasonable and accurate conclusions from the collected data, allowing them to make wise decisions in uncertain situations. In medical research, statistical methods are crucial for preventing errors and bias. There are four phases in a clinical trial. A phase one...

2011

Here we show how to use Proximity Ligation Assay (PLA), with a combination of antibodies to visualize Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP) signaling in fixed cells. This technique allowed us to follow the nuclear accumulation of endogenous BMP activated effector-complexes and quantify their levels over time under BMP4 stimulation.

Detection of Protein Ubiquitination

Ubiquitination is a key posttranslational modification carried out by a set of three enzymes. Mutations of genes involved in this modification are associated with many different human diseases. Here, we describe protocols to detect protein ubiquitination in cultured cells in vivo and test tubes in vitro.
