Waveform Recording

Waveform recording is the measurement and display of a changing biological signal over time, allowing researchers to analyze the timing, amplitude, and shape of neural activity. In neuroscience, electrodes detect voltage fluctuations or electrical currents, which are amplified, filtered, and converted into digital samples for visualization and quantitative analysis. The resulting traces can represent activity from individual neurons, brain regions, or populations of cells, depending on the recording configuration. Waveform recording supports studies of action potentials, synaptic signaling, oscillations, and sensory responses, helping investigators connect neural dynamics with behavior, disease mechanisms, and the effects of experimental interventions.

Effective Value of a Periodic Waveform

2024

The concept of effective value, the root mean square (RMS) value, is crucial in understanding electrical circuits and power delivery. This idea emerges from the necessity to measure the effectiveness of a voltage or current source in supplying power to a resistive load. The effective value of a periodic current represents the direct current (DC) that conveys the same average power to a resistor as the periodic current itself. This concept is crucial when assessing AC circuits. To determine the...

This protocol describes basic procedural steps for performing whole-cell patch-clamp recordings. This technique allows the study of the electrical behavior of neurons, and when performed in brain slices, allows the assessment of various neuronal functions from neurons that are still integrated in relatively well preserved brain circuits.

Electroencephalography-Based Recording Technique to Record the Epileptiform Activity
