Cardiac Catheterization

Cardiac catheterization is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a thin catheter to examine the heart and blood vessels, measure cardiovascular function, and guide treatment. Clinicians advance the catheter through a blood vessel into the heart, where pressure sensors, fluoroscopic imaging, and injected contrast material can assess blood flow, chamber pressures, and coronary anatomy. In pharmacology, the procedure supports evaluation of drug effects on hemodynamics and provides a route for therapies such as contrast agents, anticoagulants, vasodilators, and medications used during catheter-based interventions. These measurements help diagnose cardiovascular disease, assess treatment responses, and inform safer, more targeted care.

Cardiac catheterization is an invasive diagnostic technique used to identify and evaluate structural and functional diseases of the heart and major blood vessels. This technique diagnoses congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and coronary spasms and assesses ventricular function. It helps guide treatment decisions, including the need for revascularization procedures like percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and...
