Gas Assumptions

Gas assumptions are the simplifying principles used to model gases and predict their macroscopic behavior in physics. In the ideal-gas model, gas particles are treated as point-like objects in constant random motion; their volume is negligible compared with the container, intermolecular forces are ignored, and collisions are perfectly elastic, so pressure results from particles striking the container walls. These assumptions support the ideal gas law and kinetic theory, linking pressure, volume, temperature, and particle number. Comparing ideal predictions with real-gas behavior also helps identify when molecular size and attractive forces become important, such as at high pressures or low temperatures.

The Small x Assumption

2020

If a reaction has a small equilibrium constant, the equilibrium position favors the reactants. In such reactions, a negligible change in concentration may occur if the initial concentrations of reactants are high and the Kc value is small. In such circumstances, the equilibrium concentration is approximately equal to its initial concentration. This estimation can be used to simplify the equilibrium calculations by assuming that some equilibrium concentrations are equal to the initial...

Ideal Gas Law

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Andreas Züttel - Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology The ideal gas law describes the behavior of most common gases at near-ambient conditions and the tendency of all chemical matter in the dilute limit. It is a fundamental relationship between three measurable macroscopic system variables (pressure, temperature, and volume) and the number of molecules of gas in the system, and is therefore an essential link between the microscopic and the...

Assumptions of Survival Analysis

2025

Survival models analyze the time until one or more events occur, such as death in biological organisms or failure in mechanical systems. These models are widely used across fields like medicine, biology, engineering, and public health to study time-to-event phenomena. To ensure accurate results, survival analysis relies on key assumptions and careful study design. Survival Times Are Positively Skewed Survival times often exhibit positive skewness, unlike the normal distribution assumed in...

Assumptions on Producer Behavior

Production Production involves the creation of products. For example, a consumer electronic company may manufacture mobile phones, pharmaceutical companies manufacture drugs, and a clothing manufacturer may produce t-shirts. Assumptions To simplify the analysis of a firm's production behavior, certain assumptions are made. These assumptions allow economists to create models that can predict and explain firm behavior. While they may not always reflect reality perfectly, they provide a useful...

The Neoclassical Growth Model: Introduction and Assumptions

2025

Robert Solow introduced the neoclassical growth model to explain how economies expand and what drives their progress over time. It shows how capital, labor, and technology work together to determine output. The model begins with the idea that everything produced is either consumed or saved. A fixed part of income is saved, and those savings are invested in machines, tools, and buildings. This steady stream of investment increases the resources needed for production.A key feature of the model is...
