Oscillation Period

Oscillation period is the time required for a repeating motion to complete one full cycle, making it a fundamental measure of timing in waves, vibrations, and periodic systems. It is set by the system’s restoring forces and inertia: in ideal simple harmonic motion, a mass-spring oscillator has T = 2π√(m/k), while a simple pendulum at small amplitude has T = 2π√(L/g); frequency is its reciprocal. Measuring or calculating the oscillation period helps characterize mechanical and electrical oscillators, analyze wave behavior, and compare how system parameters influence resonance and energy transfer.

2014

Parametric optomechanical excitations have recently been experimentally demonstrated in microfluidic optomechanical resonators by means of optical radiation pressure and stimulated Brillouin scattering. This paper describes the fabrication of these microfluidic resonators along with methodologies for generating and verifying optomechanical oscillations.

In Vitro Recording of Theta Oscillations in the Mouse Hippocampus

2025

This video demonstrates the recording of rhythmic neuronal network activity, also known as theta oscillations, in an isolated hippocampus. Electrodes are inserted into various layers and spatial positions to detect and analyze theta oscillations. This shows the unique neuronal compositions and the connectivity of the neuronal network across different layers of the hippocampus.

2014

Body segmental inertial properties are required for inverse dynamics modeling. Using an oscillation and reaction board technique, inertial properties of below-knee prostheses were measured. Using direct measures of prosthesis inertia in the inverse dynamics model of the prosthetic leg resulted in lower magnitudes of resultant joint forces and moments.

Forced Oscillations

2025

When an oscillator is forced with a periodic driving force, the motion may seem chaotic. The motions of such oscillators are known as transients. After the transients die out, the oscillator reaches a steady state, where the motion is periodic, and the displacement is determined. Using the equations of force and motion, the amplitude of the driven oscillator is obtained. It depends on the natural and driving frequency. In the equation for amplitude, when the driving frequency is much smaller...

Oscillations In An LC Circuit

2026

An idealized LC circuit of zero resistance can oscillate without any source of emf by shifting the energy stored in the circuit between the electric and magnetic fields. In such an LC circuit, if the capacitor contains a charge q before the switch is closed, then all the energy of the circuit is initially stored in the electric field of the capacitor. This energy is given by When the switch is closed, the capacitor begins to discharge, producing a current in the circuit. The current, in turn,...
