Particle Seeding Density

Particle seeding density is the concentration of tracer particles introduced into a fluid or gas to measure and visualize its motion. In particle image velocimetry, a camera records successive images of these particles, and software determines local velocity by correlating their displacement between frames; insufficient seeding produces weak or incomplete measurements, while excessive seeding can reduce image contrast and complicate particle identification. Selecting an appropriate density helps balance spatial resolution, correlation quality, and measurement accuracy. This parameter is important in experimental fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, turbulence studies, and flow diagnostics, where reliable particle tracking supports quantitative analysis of transport and velocity fields.

Density Gradient Ultracentrifugation

2023

Density gradient ultracentrifugation is a common technique used to isolate and purify biomolecules and cell structures. This technique exploits the fact that, in suspension, particles that are more dense than the solvent will sediment, while those that are less dense will float. A high-speed ultracentrifuge is used to accelerate this process in order to separate biomolecules within a density gradient, which can be established by layering liquids of decreasing density in a centrifuge tube. The...

Seed Structure and Early Development of the Sporophyte

2020

Seed structures are composed of a protective seed coat surrounding a plant embryo, and a food store for the developing embryo. The embryo contains the precursor tissues for leaves, stem, and roots. The endosperm and cotyledons—seed leaves—act as the food reserves for the growing embryo. The embryo contains a double set of chromosomes, one set from each parent. Fertilization of the haploid egg by the haploid sperm gives rise to the zygote, which develops into the embryo. The endosperm is a...

Generating an Ultra-Low-Density Neuronal Culture Using a High-Density Neuronal Feeder Layer

2025

This video demonstrates the method for culturing ultra-low-density neurons in the presence of a high-density neuronal feeder layer. It establishes a co-culture of varying-density neurons, ensuring close physical proximity. The growth factors secreted by high-density neurons help neuronal survival and growth, maintaining ultra-low-density neurons for a longer time period.

2013

A procedure for studying transient flows near boundaries using high-resolution, high-speed particle image velocimetry (PIV) is described here. PIV is a non-intrusive measurement technique applicable to any optically accessible flow by optimizing several parameter constraints such as the image and recording properties, the laser sheet properties, and analysis algorithms.
