Grief Process Stages

Grief process stages describes commonly observed emotional responses to the loss of a loved one, relationship, role, or other meaningful attachment, helping psychology students and practitioners organize a complex experience without treating it as a fixed sequence. The widely known Kübler-Ross model proposes denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, while contemporary perspectives emphasize that people may move between responses, skip stages, or experience them simultaneously. Grief is shaped by the nature of the loss, personal history, culture, and social support. Understanding these patterns can improve compassionate communication, guide assessment, and help distinguish expected adjustment from persistent, impairing grief that may warrant clinical attention.

2014

Simultaneous extracellular long term recordings from two different brain neuropiles or two different anatomical tracts were established in honeybees. These recordings allow the investigation of temporal aspects of neuronal processing across different brain areas at the single neuron as well as at the ensemble level in a behaving animal.

A STAGE Tip Procedure for Desalting and Purification of Peptides

Source:Tia Rizakos1, Jennifer Geddes-McAlister11Molecular and Cellular Biology Department, University of Guelph. This video demonstrates peptide purification through the STAGE Tip procedure. A miniature column containing resin beads bonded to long hydrocarbon chains facilitates hydrophobic interaction-based purification. Upon loading a pre-digested peptide sample into the column, the peptide fragments bind to the resin beads, allowing impurities to pass through. An elution buffer that disrupts...

Stages of Sleep

2024

Sleep progresses through distinct stages, each characterized by specific brain wave patterns and physiological responses ranging from wakefulness to stages of non-rapid eye movement, known as non-REM, to rapid eye movement, referred to as REM. Understanding these stages helps in recognizing how sleep supports various bodily and cognitive functions. Before sleep begins, in wakefulness, the brain exhibits primarily beta waves, which are high in frequency and low in amplitude, indicating alertness...

Stages of General Anesthesia

Various sedation levels offer significant advantages in facilitating procedural interventions for patients undergoing medical or invasive surgical procedures. These levels span from anxiolysis to general anesthesia, providing a spectrum of sedative effects to cater to specific patient needs. Anxiolysis reduces anxiety and is achieved through minimal sedation, enabling patients to remain awake and responsive while feeling more at ease during the procedure. This level can benefit minor...
