Innovative Solutions

Innovative solutions are new or substantially improved approaches designed to address problems more effectively, efficiently, or equitably than established practices. In psychology, they may combine behavioral theory, empirical research, digital technologies, and user-centered design to develop, test, and refine interventions for mental health, learning, decision-making, or social behavior. Their effectiveness depends on clearly defining the target problem, identifying the psychological mechanisms involved, and evaluating outcomes under appropriate conditions. Applications include online therapy platforms, adaptive assessment tools, prevention programs, and behavioral interventions, while rigorous testing helps determine whether these approaches improve access, engagement, and long-term outcomes across diverse populations.

2022

The Innovation Arena is a novel comparative method for studying technical innovation rate per time unit in animals. It is composed of 20 different problem-solving tasks, which are presented simultaneously. Innovations can be carried out freely and the setup is robust with regard to predispositions on an individual, population or species level.

Diffusion of Innovation

2024

The Diffusion of Innovation theory, proposed by Everett Rogers, explains how, why, and at what rate new ideas and technology spread through cultures. According to the theory, there are five categories of adopters: Innovators (2.5% of the population) are risk-takers willing to try new ideas. Early Adopters (13.5%): They are opinion leaders who adopt new ideas early but with more caution than innovators. Early Majority (34%): They adopt an innovation after a varying degree of time. This time...

Making Solutions in the Laboratory

The ability to successfully make solutions is a basic laboratory skill performed in virtually all biological and chemical experiments. A solution is a homogenous mixture of solute dissolved in bulk liquid known as the solvent. Solutions can be described by their solute concentration, a measure of how much solute is present per unit of solution. In this video, a step-by-step procedure for how to make a water-based, or aqueous, solution for biological applications is presented. The video...

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Michael Evans — Georgia Institute of Technology A solution is a homogeneous mixture containing some components in small amounts, called solutes, and one component in a large amount, called the solvent. Solid-liquid solutions contain one or more solid solutes dissolved in a liquid solvent. Solutions are ubiquitous in chemistry: they are used to store and handle small amounts of material, carry out chemical reactions, and develop materials with controllable properties.

General Properties of Solutions

Many common substances around us exist as a solution, such as ocean water, air, and gasoline. All solutions are mixtures of substances that are composed of varying amounts of two or more types of atoms or molecules. A mixture with a non-uniform composition is a heterogeneous mixture, whereas a mixture with a uniform composition is a homogeneous mixture. The components that make the homogeneous mixture are evenly spread out and thoroughly mixed. A solution is a homogeneous mixture that is...
