Mindfulness Techniques

Mindfulness techniques are structured practices that cultivate present-moment awareness with an open, nonjudgmental attitude, making them an important focus in psychology and behavioral health. They commonly direct attention to breathing, bodily sensations, thoughts, or surrounding experiences; when attention wanders, practitioners notice the shift and gently return focus without trying to suppress mental activity. Regular practice can strengthen attentional control, increase awareness of emotional and cognitive patterns, and support more deliberate responses to stress. Psychologists apply mindfulness techniques in interventions for stress, anxiety, depression, pain, and emotional regulation, while research continues to examine how practice influences well-being and psychological functioning.
