Self Narrative

Self-narrative is the personal story people construct to organize life experiences, explain who they are, and give meaning to their actions. In psychology, it develops as autobiographical memories are selected, interpreted, and linked into themes involving identity, relationships, goals, and change; reflection and social interaction can continually revise this account. Studying self-narrative helps researchers understand personality, memory, development, and meaning-making. In clinical settings, narrative approaches can help people reconsider limiting interpretations, integrate difficult experiences, and develop more coherent perspectives on themselves and their future.
