Vocabulary Grouping

Vocabulary grouping is the organization of words into sets based on shared meaning, features, or associations, making it useful for studying how people represent and retrieve language. In psychological research, participants may sort words or judge their relatedness, revealing how semantic categories and connections in memory influence attention, learning, and recall; related words are often processed as members of a common mental network. Researchers use vocabulary-grouping tasks to examine semantic memory, concept formation, language development, and the effects of context on word recognition. The approach can also inform educational strategies for teaching new terms and strengthening meaningful retrieval.

Mutual Exclusivity: How Children Learn the Meanings of Words

2023

Source: Laboratories of Nicholaus Noles and Judith Danovitch—University of Louisville Humans are different from other animals in many ways, but perhaps the most important differentiating factor is their ability to use language. Other animals can communicate and even understand and use language in limited ways, but trying to teach human language to a chimp or a dog takes a great deal of time and effort. In contrast, young humans acquire their native language easily, and they learn linguistic...

Direct injection of cancer-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) leads to reprogramming of bone marrow supporting tumor progression; however, which cells mediate this effect is unclear. Herein, we describe a step-by-step protocol to investigate EV-mediated tumor-mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) interactions in vivo, revealing a crucial role for EV-educated MSCs in metastasis.
