Simple Random Sampling

Simple random sampling is a statistical method for selecting a subset of individuals from a population so that every eligible member has an equal, known chance of inclusion. Researchers first define the target population and construct a sampling frame, then use a random-number generator, lottery procedure, or similar process to select participants independently, without favoring particular characteristics. This approach helps reduce selection bias and supports estimates that can represent the broader population, provided the sampling frame is complete and the sample size is adequate. In statistics, it is used in surveys, experiments, and quality-control studies to quantify sampling error and strengthen the validity of conclusions.

Sampling is a technique to select a portion (or subset) of the larger population and study that portion (the sample) to gain information about the population. Data are the result of sampling from a population. The sampling method ensures that samples are drawn without bias and accurately represent the population. Because measuring the entire population in a study is not practical, researchers use samples to represent the population of interest. Among the various sampling methods used by...

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University A two-group design is the simplest way to establish a cause-effect relationship between two variables. This video demonstrates a simple experiment (two-group design). In providing an overview of how a researcher conducts a simple experiment (two-group design), this video shows viewers the process of turning ideas into testable ideas and forming hypothesis, the identification and effect of...
