已有研究介绍了多种用于估算陆地叶面积指数（LAI）的仪器和方法学途径，以及它们在不同生态系统中的优缺点8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15。LAI估算方法主要分为两类：直接法和间接法（详见参考文献8,9,10,11,12）。在森林群落中，地面LAI估算主要采用间接光学方法，因为直接测定LAI通常难以实现，但这些方法往往耗时较长、劳动强度大且具有破坏性9,10,12,16。此外，间接光学方法通过测量与LAI相关且更易获取的参数来推导LAI值（从耗时和劳动强度角度考虑）17，例如冠层上方与下方入射辐射的比值以及冠层空隙的量化指标14。显然，植物冠层分析仪也已广泛用于验证卫星反演的LAI数据18；因此，该仪器被视为LP 110比较的标准工具（有关所用仪器的更多细节，请参见材料表）。
LP 110 是最初自制简易仪器 ALAI-02D 的升级版本19 以及后续的 LP 10020，被开发为植物冠层分析仪的一个强有力竞争产品。作为间接光学方法的代表，该设备为手持式，重量轻，由电池供电，传感器与数据记录仪之间无需电缆连接，采用数字倾角仪替代气泡水平仪，可实现更快、更精确的定位与数值读取。此外，该设备设计支持即时读数，因此在野外采集数据所需的时间比使用植物冠层分析仪缩短约三分之一。读数导出至计算机后，数据即可用于后续处理。该设备记录蓝光波长范围内的辐照度（即380–490 nm）21,22 使用LAI传感器进行LAI计算。该LAI传感器被一个不透光的限流帽遮蔽 16° （Z轴）和 112° （横轴）视野图1）。因此，可使用设备在垂直于地面的方向（即天顶角）测量光的透射率 0°），或在五个不同的角度 0°, 16°, 32°, 48°，以及 64° 从而能够推断冠层元素的倾斜角度。

由于LAI传感器具有更高的灵敏度、受限的视场角、内置数字倾角仪，以及无需按键即可通过声音提示在正确位置自动记录读数的功能，这种新型仪器也适用于狭窄山谷甚至较宽阔的林区道路进行树冠上方测量，以获取多种天空条件下的数据。此外，该仪器能够量化相对较高更新层之上的成熟林分树冠，并且在辐射值测量精度上高于植物冠层分析仪。而且，LP 110的价格约为植物冠层分析仪的四分之一。相反，LP 110在郁闭度极高（即林分水平LAIe超过7.88）23或植被层极低（如草地）的冠层中应用受限。
LP 110 可在两种工作模式下运行：（i）单传感器模式，使用同一仪器在测量冠层下数据之前、之后或期间，分别获取冠层下的测量值和参考值（参考值位于被研究冠层上方或分析植被附近足够开阔的空地）；（ii）双传感器模式，其中第一台仪器用于获取冠层下的测量值，第二台仪器则用于在预设的固定时间间隔（从 10 至 600 秒）内自动记录参考值。LP 110 可与兼容的 GPS 设备（见材料表）配合使用，为上述两种模式下的每个冠层下测量点记录坐标。
有效叶面积指数（LAIe）24 考虑了冠层叶片聚集效应，可通过测量研究植被冠层上方和下方的太阳直射辐照度来推导25。因此，在进行以下 LAIe 计算时，需利用 LP 110 设备测得的冠层下方透射的辐照度（I）和植被上方的入射辐照度（Io）来计算透射率（t）。

由于辐射强度在穿过植被冠层时呈指数级衰减，因此可依据Monsi和Saeki修正的比尔-朗伯消光定律计算有效叶面积指数（LAIe）9,26

在森林林分中，由于枝条内同化器官存在聚集效应，必须对LAIe进一步校正，以获得实际的LAI值29,30,31,32,33,34。
本方案旨在介绍LP 110光学仪器在中欧针叶林分样地（参见表2和表3中的样地、结构及测树特征）中估算有效叶面积指数（LAIe）的实际应用。利用该仪器对植被冠层中的LAIe进行估算，基于一种广泛应用的光学方法，该方法与光合有效辐射的透射率及冠层空隙率相关。本文旨在提供一套利用新型LP 110光学仪器进行LAIe估算的完整操作流程。

两种测试设备在所有研究样地（即上层疏伐（A）、下层疏伐（B）以及未进行任何森林抚育干预的对照样地（C））中获得的空间结构明显不同（详见表2）。在林分尺度上，通过ANOVA和Tukey检验确认了LP 110与植物冠层分析仪在不同疏伐密度样地（A与B）之间测得的叶面积指数（LAI）存在类似差异。对于植物冠层分析仪，未进行森林抚育干预的对照样地（C）中的LAI值显著高于经过疏伐处理的样地（A、B）。然而，该仪器在对照样地测得的LAI值显著高于LP 110所测得的值。而对于LP 110，C和B处理之间的LAI值无显著差异；相反，在C和A样地之间发现了LAI值的显著差异。总体而言，在所研究的林分中，实施疏伐处理后LAI显著降低。使用LP 110（LaiPen LP110）估算的LAI在样地A中下降更为明显，而使用分析仪（LAI-2200 PCA）测得的LAI在样地B中下降更多。然而，这些记录到的差异程度较小（图4）。
