Physiology of the Circulatory System

Die Physiologie ist ein Zweig der Biologie, der beschreibt, wie Organismen funktionieren und sich an verschiedene Umgebungen anpassen. Eines der wichtigsten Organsysteme, das die Physiologie eines Organismus definiert, ist das Kreislaufsystem, das Blut, Nährstoffe, Sauerstoff und Hormone durch den Körper transportiert. Beim Menschen kann ein Maß für die Funktion des Kreislaufsystems durch die Messung des Blutdrucks gewonnen werden. Der Begriff Blutdruck beschreibt den seitlichen Druck, den das Blut auf die Gefäßwände ausübt. 
Eine der wichtigsten Anwendungen der Blutdruckmessung ist die Überprüfung auf erhöhten Blutdruck, eine Erkrankung, die als Hypertonie bezeichnet wird. Jeder dritte Erwachsene in den Vereinigten Staaten leidet an Bluthochdruck, und er ist eine der Hauptursachen für Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen. Zu den Geräten, die für eine traditionelle indirekte Blutdruckmessung benötigt werden, gehören ein Stethoskop und ein Blutdruckmessgerät. Das Blutdruckmessgerät besteht aus einer Blutdruckmanschette, die eine dehnbare Blase enthält, und einem Gummiknollen mit einem verstellbaren Ventil, das im geschlossenen Zustand beim Aufblasen der Manschette hilft und im geöffneten Zustand den aufgebauten Druck ablässt. Es besteht auch aus einem Schlauch, der die Manschette mit der Glühbirne und dem Manometer verbindet, das den Druck der Manschette in Millimetern Quecksilbersäule anzeigt. Um den Blutdruck zu erfassen, wickelt der Untersucher die Manschette um die Armarterie, legt ein Stethoskop über diese Arterie, bläst die Manschette über den erwarteten systolischen Druck auf und lässt sie dann entleeren, während er gleichzeitig auskultiert und das Manometer beobachtet. Anfangs, wenn die Manschette vollständig aufgeblasen ist, wird die Arterie gequetscht und der Blutfluss gestoppt. Daher gibt es bei der Auskultation keinen Ton. Bei der Deflation bedeutet das erste Auftreten der Korotkoff-Geräusche den systolischen Druck, der aufgrund der turbulenten Strömung in der teilweise gequetschten Arterie hörbar ist. Eine weitere Deflation führt zu einem stetig abnehmenden Manschettendruck, und die Korotkoff-Geräusche bleiben durchgehend hörbar, bis zu dem Punkt, an dem der Manschettendruck unter dem minimalen arteriellen Druck liegt. Dieser Messwert bezeichnet den diastolischen Druck. Der Anteil des systolischen über den diastolischen wird als endgültiger Blutdruckwert aufgezeichnet. 
Ein weiterer wichtiger Indikator der menschlichen Physiologie ist die Atemfrequenz, also die Anzahl der Atemzüge pro Minute. Die Luft, die wir einatmen, wandert durch unsere Luftröhre und durch die Bronchien in unsere Lunge. In der Lunge gelangt es durch die Bronchiolen und gelangt schließlich in die spezialisierten Luftbläschen, die Alveolen. Die Lungenbläschen sind von Blutkapillaren umgeben, die die Diffusion des eingeatmeten Sauerstoffs in unseren Blutkreislauf ermöglichen und die Ausscheidung von Kohlendioxid erleichtern, wodurch die Homöostase unseres Systems aufrechterhalten wird. Für Säugetiere wie den Menschen bedeutet die Aufrechterhaltung der Homöostase die Aufrechterhaltung einer relativ konstanten Körpertemperatur, unabhängig von der Umgebungstemperatur. Diese Eigenschaft macht uns zu Endothermen. Daher bleiben unsere Stoffwechselrate und unsere Atemfrequenz relativ konstant. Im Gegenteil, fast alle Fische, einschließlich Goldfische, haben eine innere Körpertemperatur, die fast der Temperatur der sie umgebenden Umgebung entspricht. Solche Organismen werden Ektotherme genannt. Da sie nicht aktiv eine konstante Innentemperatur aufrechterhalten, ändert sich ihre Stoffwechsel- und Atemfrequenz, um Schwankungen der Umgebungstemperatur auszugleichen. Die Atmungsfrequenz bei Fischen kann gemessen werden, indem die Kiemenschläge, das Heben und Senken des Operculums oder der Kiemenabdeckung, pro Minute gezählt werden. Es gibt noch einen weiteren Faktor, der die Atmungsrate von Wasserorganismen beeinflusst. Beachten Sie, dass ein Fisch den in seiner Umgebung vorhandenen gelösten Sauerstoff einatmet. Und die Menge an verfügbarem gelöstem Sauerstoff im Wasser hängt von der Wassertemperatur ab. Sie nimmt mit erhöhter Temperatur ab, was sich wiederum auf die Atemfrequenz auswirkt. 
In diesem Labor untersuchen Sie das menschliche Kreislaufsystem, indem Sie den Blutdruck unter verschiedenen Bedingungen messen, und untersuchen dann die Auswirkungen der Temperatur auf die Atmung anhand von Fischen.

<h4>Homöostase</h4>
Die Bedingungen in der äußeren Umgebung eines Organismus können sich schnell und drastisch ändern. Um zu überleben, müssen Organismen eine ziemlich konstante innere Umgebung aufrechterhalten, die eine kontinuierliche Regulierung von Temperatur, pH-Wert und anderen Faktoren beinhaltet. Dieser ausgeglichene Zustand wird als Homöostase bezeichnet und beschreibt die Prozesse, durch die Organismen ihre optimalen inneren Bedingungen aufrechterhalten. Um die Homöostase aufrechtzuerhalten, haben Organismen Strukturen mit unterschiedlichen Funktionen entwickelt. Physiologie ist das Studium der normalen Funktionen und Mechanismen der verschiedenen Systeme im Körper. Wenn zum Beispiel die äußere Umgebung wärmer wird als die ideale Innentemperatur, aktiviert der Organismus physiologische Prozesse, die den Körper davon abhalten, sich auf die Außentemperatur zu erwärmen. Der Mensch und viele andere Tiere erreichen die Homöostase durch unterschiedliche physiologische Prozesse in spezialisierten Zellen.
<h4>Organsysteme beim Menschen</h4>
Ein oder mehrere Zelltypen mit unterstützenden Funktionen bilden Gewebe, die wiederum Organe mit spezialisierten Körperfunktionen bilden. Organsysteme bestehen aus zwei oder mehr Organen, die zusammenarbeiten, um eine gemeinsame Funktion zu erfüllen. Das physiologische System der Wirbeltiere besteht aus 11 Hauptorgansystemen. Obwohl alle Organsysteme miteinander verbunden sind, funktionieren sie in gewisser Weise unabhängig voneinander.
Der Körper wird vom Integumentärsystem bedeckt, das aus Haut, Haaren, Nägeln, sensorischen Rezeptoren und verschiedenen Drüsen besteht. Neben dem Schutz der inneren Strukturen nehmen die integumentären Organe viele Merkmale der äußeren Umgebung wahr und helfen, die Körpertemperatur zu regulieren. Intern werden die Organe durch das Skelettsystem geschützt und unterstützt, das Knochen, Knorpel, Sehnen und Bänder umfasst. Das Skelettsystem sorgt auch für die Befestigung der Muskeln, aus denen die Muskulatur besteht. Muskeln können den Körper bewegen, indem sie das Skelett bewegen, oder sich zusammenziehen, um Substanzen durch Hohlorgane zu transportieren. Das Nervensystem besteht aus dem Gehirn, dem Rückenmark und den peripheren Nerven. Es interpretiert sensorische Reize und steuert das Verhalten des Organismus, um physiologische Prozesse zusammen mit anderen Systemen zu steuern. Das endokrine System besteht aus hormonausschüttenden Drüsen und Organen wie Hypophyse, Schilddrüse, Bauchspeicheldrüse, Eierstöcken und Hoden. Es reguliert zusammen mit anderen Systemen das Wachstum, den Stoffwechsel und die Fortpflanzung. Das Atmungssystem steuert den Gasaustausch, um den Körper mit Sauerstoff zu versorgen, da es Kohlendioxid aus der Lunge entfernt, nachdem die Luft durch die Nasenhöhle, den Rachen, den Kehlkopf, die Luftröhre und den Bronchus gelangt ist. Das Verdauungssystem verarbeitet und zerlegt die Nahrung, die über die Mundhöhle und die Speiseröhre aufgenommen und dann durch den Magen, den Dünn- und Dickdarm transportiert wird, bevor sie über den Enddarm und den Anus ausgeschieden wird. Nährstoffe werden im Dünn- und Dickdarm aufgenommen und dann von der Leber verarbeitet. Das Harnsystem konzentriert und scheidet stickstoffhaltige Abfälle über die Niere, die Blase und die Harnröhre aus. Es befreit den Körper auch von überschüssigem Wasser. Das Herz-Kreislauf- oder Kreislaufsystem besteht aus dem Herzen, den Blutgefäßen und dem Blut und versorgt das Gewebe mit Sauerstoff und Nährstoffen, während Kohlendioxid und Abfallprodukte im ganzen Körper abtransportiert werden. Das Lymphsystem hält die Immunantwort des Körpers über weiße Blutkörperchen oder Lymphozyten (die im roten Knochenmark untergebracht sind), den Thymus, die Lymphgefäße, den Thoraxgang, die Milz und die Lymphknoten aufrecht. Schließlich bereitet das Fortpflanzungssystem die Fortpflanzungszellen von Organismen vor. Bei Männern bilden Hoden und Penis das Fortpflanzungssystem, während bei Frauen die Gebärmutter, die Eierstöcke und die Vagina das Fortpflanzungssystem bilden.
<h4>Physiologie des Kreislaufsystems</h4>
Die Physiologie von einzelligen Organismen und basalen mehrzelligen Tieren, wie z.B. Schwämmen, ist oft einfach. Die geringe Größe und das große Oberflächen-Volumen-Verhältnis von Mikroorganismen ermöglichen es ihnen beispielsweise, eine Regulation durch Diffusion über die Zellmembran zu erreichen. In ähnlicher Weise zirkuliert Meerwasser durch die Poren von Schwämmen und transportiert Nährstoffe und Abfallprodukte zu und von seinen Zellen. Komplexere Tiere haben ein Kreislaufsystem entwickelt, um Blut durch den Körper zu transportieren, um Nährstoffe, Abfallprodukte, Hormone und andere Moleküle zu transportieren, während das Atmungssystem den Gasaustausch zwischen dem Kreislaufsystem und der äußeren Umgebung ermöglicht. 
Das Kreislaufsystem bei Tieren kann offen oder geschlossen sein. Offene Kreislaufsysteme sind typischerweise bei vielen wirbellosen Tieren vorhanden und bestehen aus einem oder mehreren einfachen Herzen, einem Gefäßnetzwerk und miteinander verbundenen Räumen, die die inneren Organe direkt in einer Flüssigkeit baden, die den Austausch von Materialien ermöglicht. Wirbeltiere haben ein geschlossenes Kreislaufsystem, in dem das Blut in einem geschlossenen Gefäßsystem eingeschlossen ist, das sich großflächig in das Gewebe verzweigt, um den Materialaustausch zu gewährleisten. Dieses geschlossene Gefäßsystem ist mit einem Herzen verbunden, dessen Venen das Blut vom Gewebe zum Herzen transportieren, und Arterien, die das Blut vom Herzen zum Rest des Körpers transportieren. Vierkammerherzen, wie beim Menschen, sind mit zwei Gefäßschlingen verbunden. Beim Menschen gelangt sauerstoffarmes Blut aus Organen durch den rechten Vorhof in das Herz, der sich zusammenzieht, um Blut in den rechten Ventrikel zu drücken, der wiederum Blut in die Lunge leitet. Nach dem Gasaustausch in der Lunge kehrt sauerstoffreiches Blut in den linken Vorhof zurück und wird später in die linke Herzkammer gedrückt. Diese letzte Kammer ist muskulöser als die anderen und mit einer starken Kontraktion in der Lage, das Blut in den Rest des Körpers zu pumpen.
Geschlossene Kreislaufsysteme ermöglichen eine schnelle Zirkulation des Blutes, was wiederum einen schnellen und effizienten Transport von Substanzen durch den Körper sowie einen höheren Blutdruck als in offenen Systemen ermöglicht. Der Blutdruck wird durch die Kontraktion der Herzventrikel erzeugt, wenn Blut in die Arterien gepresst wird. Wenn sich die Herzkammern entspannen, sinkt der Blutdruck.
<h4>Blutdruck</h4>
Beim Menschen kann die Funktion des Kreislaufsystems durch Messung des Blutdrucks und der entsprechenden Herzfrequenz bei einer Person beurteilt werden. Der Blutdruck wird in Millimetern Quecksilbersäule (mmHg) gemessen, d. h. der Höhe in Millimetern, auf die Quecksilber in einer Säule aufgrund des auf sie ausgeübten Drucks angehoben wird. Die Herzfrequenz wird in Schlägen pro Minute gemessen. Aufgrund der Kontraktions- und Entspannungsbewegungen des Herzens bestehen die Blutdruckwerte aus zwei Zahlen – systolisch und diastolisch. Der systolische Druck wird während der Kontraktionen der Ventrikel gemessen, und der diastolische Druck ist der minimale Druck in den Arterien während der Ruhe zwischen den Wehen. Im Allgemeinen gelten systolische Drücke von 90-120 mmHg und diastolische Drücke von 60-80 mmHg als gesund. Wenn es um die Herzfrequenz geht, gelten 60-100 Schläge pro Minute für Erwachsene als gesund. Sportler haben in der Regel eine niedrigere Herzfrequenz, da Herz-Kreislauf-Übungen die Herzfrequenz erhöhen und das Herz darauf konditionieren, effizienter zu pumpen, was schließlich die Ruheherzfrequenz senkt1.
Erhöhter Blutdruck über einen längeren Zeitraum oder Bluthochdruck können die Blutgefäße schädigen und wurden mit Herzinfarkt und Schlaganfall in Verbindung gebracht2. Die Forscher entdeckten, dass die kardiovaskulären Wirkungen des systolischen und diastolischen Drucks unterschiedlich sind, so dass die Raten kardiovaskulärer Ereignisse stark mit dem systolischen Druck verbunden sind. Daher ist die Anzahl der Patienten mit systolischer Hypertonie, die an kardiovaskulären Ereignissen leiden, höher als die Anzahl der Patienten mit diastolischer Hypertonie3. Genetische Faktoren sowie Lebensstil- und Umweltfaktoren können Bluthochdruck und Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen verursachen. Zum Beispiel führt der Verzehr großer Mengen Salz zu einer Ansammlung von überschüssigem Wasser im Körper, was den Blutdruck erhöht und die Blutgefäße belastet. Jede Beleidigung der Blutgefäße macht sie anfällig für Verletzungen, was Oberflächen für die Bildung von Plaque bietet, die schließlich die Blutgefäße versteift und die Effizienz des Blutflusses verringert.
Blutdruckmessungen
Blutdruckmessgeräte werden zur Messung des Blutdrucks verwendet. Sie bestehen aus einer aufblasbaren Manschette, die mit einer Pumpe (manuell oder automatisch) verbunden ist, und einem Manometer. Die effizienteste Art, ein Blutdruckmessgerät zu verwenden, ist an der Armarterie am Oberarm, die sich auf Höhe des Herzens befindet. Blutdruckmessgeräte werden in Verbindung mit einem Stethoskop verwendet, einem akustischen medizinischen Gerät, das verwendet wird, um interne Geräusche über eine Metallscheibe oder einen Resonator zu hören. Das Stethoskop wird direkt unter das Blutdruckmessgerät gehalten, direkt über der Innenseite des Ellbogens der Person, um die Geräusche des systolischen und diastolischen Blutdrucks zu messen. Die Manschette wird auf 200 mmHg aufgeblasen, wodurch der Blutfluss gestoppt wird, indem die Blutgefäße eingeklemmt werden, und es ist ein sicherer Druck, der auf den Arm ausgeübt wird. Wenn sich die Manschette entleert, beginnen sich die Blutgefäße zu öffnen und das Blut kann wieder durchfließen. Der systolische Blutdruck wird durch das erste gehörte Geräusch und der diastolische Druck durch das zuletzt gehörte Geräusch bestimmt. Diese Geräusche werden Korotkoff-Töne genannt, d.h. das Geräusch von Blut, das vom Herzen gewaltsam durch die Gefäße gedrückt wird4.
<h4>Atmungssystem</h4>
Das Kreislaufsystem arbeitet eng mit den Atemwegen zusammen, um das Gewebe mit Sauerstoff zu versorgen und gleichzeitig Kohlendioxid zu entfernen. Verschiedene Organismen haben unterschiedliche Atmungsstrukturen für den Gasaustausch entwickelt. Zum Beispiel tauschen viele Wassertiere Gase über Kiemen aus. Kiemenbewegungen sind leicht zu beobachten und können zur Berechnung der Atmungsrate von Wasserorganismen verwendet werden, indem gezählt wird, wie oft der Organismus seinen Kiemendeckel oder sein Operculum bewegt. Die Atemfrequenz kann sich mit der Temperatur ändern, da Sauerstoffmoleküle unterschiedlich schnell transportiert werden, je nachdem, wie warm oder kühl eine Umgebung ist. In einer aquatischen Umgebung nimmt die Menge an verfügbarem gelöstem Sauerstoff im Wasser mit steigender Temperatur ab. Der verminderte Sauerstoff wirkt sich auf die Atmungsrate von Wasserorganismen aus, da sie in der Lage sind, Sauerstoff in ihrem Körper zu verteilen. Auf der anderen Seite haben Landtiere innere Atmungsstrukturen, wie z. B. die Lunge. Beim Menschen beinhaltet die Atmung das Einatmen, indem das Zwerchfell zusammengezogen wird, um Luft anzusaugen. Wenn sich das Zwerchfell entspannt, wird die Luft passiv aus der Lunge abgegeben.
Rauchen ist die Hauptursache für Lungenkrebs und für 80-90 % der Todesfälle durch Lungenkrebs verantwortlich. Jedes Jahr sterben mehr als 120.000 Amerikaner an rauchbedingtem Lungenkrebs und stellen einen großen Teil der vermeidbaren Todesfälle dar5. Zusammengenommen trägt der Lebensstil zur Gesundheit sowohl des Kreislauf- als auch des Atmungssystems bei, und eine beträchtliche Anzahl von Todesfällen kann durch Änderungen des Lebensstils verhindert werden.

The circulatory system moves blood, oxygen, nutrients, and wastes through the body to support homeostasis. Homeostasis is the stable internal balance that organisms must maintain even when the outside environment changes. Physiology is the study of how body systems work, and the circulatory system is one of the key systems that helps keep internal conditions steady.

Body systems are built from cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. Humans have 11 major organ systems, and they work together even though each system has its own main job. The integumentary system protects the body and helps control temperature. The skeletal system supports organs and gives muscles a place to attach. The muscular system moves the body and can also move substances through hollow organs. The nervous system controls responses to stimuli. The endocrine system uses hormones to regulate growth, metabolism, and reproduction. The respiratory system exchanges gases in the lungs. The digestive system breaks down food and absorbs nutrients. The urinary system removes nitrogenous wastes and extra water. The lymphatic system helps immune defense. The reproductive system produces reproductive cells.

In simple organisms, transport can happen by diffusion because of their small size and large surface area to volume ratio. Sponges also rely on water flow through their pores to carry nutrients and wastes. More complex animals need circulatory systems to move materials farther and faster. These systems transport nutrients, waste products, hormones, and other molecules, while the respiratory system supports gas exchange with the outside environment.

Animal circulatory systems can be open or closed. Open circulatory systems are common in many invertebrates. They use one or more simple hearts, a vessel network, and open spaces that bathe organs in fluid for exchange. Vertebrates have closed circulatory systems, where blood stays inside vessels that branch through tissues. In this system, veins carry blood toward the heart, and arteries carry blood away from the heart.

Humans have a four-chambered heart with two circulation loops. Oxygen-poor blood from the body enters the right atrium, moves to the right ventricle, and is sent to the lungs. After gas exchange, oxygen-rich blood returns to the left atrium and then moves to the left ventricle. The left ventricle has a thicker muscle wall because it must pump blood to the rest of the body. Closed circulatory systems move blood quickly and efficiently and produce higher blood pressure than open systems.

Blood pressure and heart rate are used to measure how well the circulatory system is working. Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury, or mmHg. Heart rate is measured in beats per minute. Blood pressure has two numbers. Systolic pressure is the pressure during ventricular contraction. Diastolic pressure is the lowest arterial pressure between contractions. Healthy adult values are usually about 90-120 mmHg for systolic pressure and 60-80 mmHg for diastolic pressure. A healthy adult heart rate is usually 60-100 beats per minute, and athletes often have lower resting heart rates because exercise makes the heart pump more efficiently.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, can damage blood vessels and is linked to heart attack and stroke. The transcript notes that systolic pressure is strongly associated with cardiovascular events, and systolic hypertension is more closely linked to those events than diastolic hypertension. Hypertension can result from genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. For example, eating a lot of salt can cause the body to retain extra water. That raises blood pressure and strains blood vessels. Injured vessel walls can also encourage plaque buildup, which can stiffen vessels and reduce blood flow.

Blood pressure is often measured with a sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope. A sphygmomanometer uses an inflatable cuff, a pump, and a pressure gauge. It is usually placed on the brachial artery in the upper arm, level with the heart. The cuff is inflated to 200 mmHg, which briefly stops blood flow and is safe for the arm. As the cuff deflates, blood starts flowing again. The first sound heard is the systolic pressure, and the last sound heard is the diastolic pressure. These sounds are called Korotkoff sounds, and they come from blood being forced through the vessels.

The circulatory system also works closely with the respiratory system to supply oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. Many aquatic animals use gills for gas exchange, and their respiration rate can be estimated by counting operculum movements. Respiration rate can change with temperature because oxygen moves differently in warm or cool environments. In water, dissolved oxygen decreases as temperature rises, which affects aquatic organisms that rely on diffusion. Terrestrial animals use internal structures such as lungs. In humans, inhalation happens when the diaphragm contracts and pulls air in, and exhalation happens when the diaphragm relaxes. Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer and accounts for 80-90% of lung cancer deaths. The transcript also notes that more than 120,000 Americans die each year from smoking-associated lung cancer, showing how lifestyle choices can affect both circulatory and respiratory health.

The scientific method gives scientists a way to solve problems and explain natural events. Its development grew alongside new ideas in science during the European Renaissance. EXPLANATION: Discussions of DNA in earlier grades have been limited to discussions of genes and the role of genes in the appearance and activities of an organism. Biology 1 represents a student's introduction to a molecular model of a DNA as well as the organization of DNA into genes and genes subsequently into chromosomes. Students should address interactions between genes in proteins which regulate both the shape and reproduction of DNA molecules. It is important to note that not all segments of DNA are transcribed for proteins. Portions of DNA are involved in regulating the expression of genes or affect the structure of the chromosomes (replication origin, centromeres, and telomeres).
