Pyruvate Oxidation

Nach der Glykolyse in Eukaryonten gelangen die geladenen Pyruvatmoleküle über aktiven Transport in die Mitochondrien und durchlaufen drei enzymatische Reaktionen.
 Der Prozess wird durch einen Komplex katalysiert, den Pyruvat-Dehydrogenase-Komplex, in dem drei Enzyme eine Rolle spielen.
 Im ersten Schritt wird die Carboxylgruppe aus dem Pyruvat entfernt und als Kohlendioxid freigesetzt.
 Das gestrippte Molekül wird dann zu einer Acetylgruppe oxidiert und die freigesetzten Elektronen werden von NAD+ aufgenommen, um NADH zu bilden.
 Dann wird die Acetylgruppe auf das Coenzym A übertragen, wo es sich an das Schwefelatom bindet, um Acetylcoenzym A oder Acetyl-CoA zu erzeugen, das sich zur weiteren Oxidierung in den Zitronensäurezyklus hineinbewegt.

Nach der Glykolyse gelangen die geladenen Pyruvatmoleküle durch einen aktiven Transport in die Mitochondrien und durchlaufen drei enzymatische Reaktionen. Diese Reaktionen sorgen dafür, dass Pyruvat in den nächsten Stoffwechselweg gelangen kann, so dass die in den Pyruvatmolekülen gespeicherte Energie von den Zellen genutzt werden kann.
 
 Zuerst entfernt das Enzym Pyruvat-Dehydrogenase die Carboxylgruppe des Pyruvats und setzt sie als Kohlendioxid frei. Das abgetrennte Molekül wird dann oxidiert und setzt Elektronen frei, die dann von NAD+ aufgenommen werden um NADH zu bilden, wobei sich Acetat bildet.
 
 Schließlich bindet sich Coenzym A über sein Schwefelatom an das Acetat, um Acetyl-Coenzym A oder Acetyl-CoA zu bilden. Coenzym A ist eine schwefelhaltige Verbindung, die von einem B Vitamin abstammt. Acetyl-CoA geht dann in den Citratzyklus über, wo es weiter oxidiert wird.

Pyruvate is prepared for the next stage of cellular respiration inside the mitochondria. After glycolysis, the charged pyruvate molecules enter the mitochondria by active transport. There, they go through three enzymatic reactions so the energy stored in pyruvate can be used by the cell.

First, pyruvate dehydrogenase removes the carboxyl group from pyruvate. This step releases carbon dioxide. Next, the stripped molecule is oxidized, and the electrons are picked up by NAD+ to make NADH. The remaining two-carbon fragment becomes acetate.

Finally, coenzyme A attaches to the acetate through its sulfur atom. Coenzyme A is a sulfur-containing compound made from a B vitamin. This forms acetyl coenzyme A, or acetyl CoA. Acetyl CoA then enters the citric acid cycle, where it is oxidized further.
