Description
Glycolysis produces ATP and NADH during its energy-releasing phase. These reactions are the last steps of glycolysis and convert glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, or G3P, into pyruvate. The phase is often described as steps 6 to 10, and it happens twice because two 3-carbon sugars are made earlier in glycolysis.

The second phase of glycolysis begins with the oxidation of two molecules of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. It is catalyzed by the enzyme glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase, which transfers a phosphate group to the sugar, forming 1, 3- bisphosphoglycerate.
