Nukleins&#xE4;uren sind Polymere von Nukleotiden.
 Monomere bestehen aus einem Pentosezucker, einer Phosphatgruppe und einer Stickstoffbasis.
 Innerhalb des Zuckermolek&#xFC;ls sind die f&#xFC;nf Kohlenstoffe mit den Primen eins bis f&#xFC;nf nummeriert.
 Jede Notatioin offenbart, zu welcher Gruppe es sich bindet.
 So kann beispielsweise der zweite Kohlenstoff entweder an ein Wasserstoffatom gebunden sein, das einen Desoxyribose-Zucker wie in Desoxyribonukleins&#xE4;ure oder DNA erzeugt.
 Alternativ kann eine Hydroxelgruppe an diesem Ort auftreten, was einen Ribosezucker bildet, wie in einer Ribonukleins&#xE4;ure oder RNA.
 Um das abwechselnde Phosphatzucker-Grundger&#xFC;st zu bilden, sind die f&#xFC;nf prim&#xE4;ren Kohlenstoffverbindungen mit der Phosphatgruppe verkn&#xFC;pft.
 Diese verbindet sich mit den drei prim&#xE4;ren Kohlenstoffatomen des n&#xE4;chsten Nukleotids und bildet &#xFC;ber die Phosphodiesterbindung eine Kette.
 Diese Anordnung bestimmt die Richtung.
 Die Sequenz, in der Nukleins&#xE4;uren gelesen werden.
 Prime f&#xFC;nf zu Prime drei sind auf einem einzelnen Strang.
 Der letzte wichtige Kohlenstoff, Prime eins ist an eine Stickstoffbasis gebunden.
 Mit einer von zwei Ringstrukturen.
 Pyrimidine wie Cytosin, Thymin und Uracil haben einen einzigen organischen Ring.
 W&#xE4;hrend Purine, wie Adenin und Guanin, Doppelringe habenn.
 Wasserstoffbindungen zwischen Stickstoffbasen von zwei separaten Str&#xE4;ngen bilden die Doppelhelix der DNA.
 Guanin verbindet sich immer mit Cytosin.
 Und Adenin verbindet sich mit Thymin.
 RNA enth&#xE4;lt eher Uracil als Thymin und bleibt ein Einzelstrang.

<h4>&#xDC;berblick</h4>
 
 Nukleins&#xE4;uren sind lange Ketten von Nucleotiden, die durch Phosphodiesterbindungen miteinander verbunden sind. Es gibt zwei Arten von Nukleins&#xE4;uren: Desoxyribonukleins&#xE4;ure, oder DNA, und Ribonukleins&#xE4;ure, oder RNA. Sowohl bei DNA als auch bei RNA bestehen die Nukleotide aus einem Zucker, einer Nukleinbase und einem Phosphatmolek&#xFC;l.
 
 <h4>Nukleins&#xE4;uren sind das Erbmaterial der Zelle</h4>
 
 Das Erbgut einer Zelle besteht aus Nukleins&#xE4;uren. Diese erm&#xF6;glichen es lebenden Organismen, ihre genetische Information an die nachfolgende Generation weiterzugeben. Es gibt zwei Arten von Nukleins&#xE4;uren: Desoxyribonukleins&#xE4;ure (DNA) und Ribonukleins&#xE4;ure (RNA). DNA und RNA unterscheiden sich in ihrer chemischen Zusammensetzung nur geringf&#xFC;gig, erf&#xFC;llen aber v&#xF6;llig unterschiedliche biologische Funktionen.
 
 <h4>Nukleins&#xE4;uren sind Polymere aus Nukleotiden</h4>
 
 Chemisch gesehen sind Nukleins&#xE4;uren Polynukleotide, d.h. Ketten aus Nukleotiden. Ein Nukleotid besteht aus drei Bausteinen: einem Pentosezucker, einer Nukleinbase und einer Phosphatgruppe. Der Zucker und die Base bilden zusammen ein Nukleosid. Daher wird ein Nukleotid manchmal auch als Nukleosidmonophosphat bezeichnet. Jeder der drei Bestandteile eines Nukleotids spielt eine Schl&#xFC;sselrolle im gesamten Aufbau der Nukleins&#xE4;uren.
 
 Wie der Name schon sagt, hat ein Pentosezucker f&#xFC;nf Kohlenstoffatome, die mit 1o, 2o, 3o, 4o und 5o benannt sind. Der Pentosezucker in der RNA ist Ribose, d.h. der 2o Kohlenstoff tr&#xE4;gt eine Hydroxylgruppe. Der Zucker in der DNA ist Desoxyribose, d.h. der 2o Kohlenstoff ist an ein Wasserstoffatom gebunden. Der Zucker ist an die Nukleinbase an der 1o Kohlenstoff und das Phosphatmolek&#xFC;l an der 5o Kohlenstoff gebunden.
 
 <h4>Nukleotide sind durch Phosphodiesterbindungen verbunden</h4>
 
 Das Phosphatmolek&#xFC;l, welches an den 5o Kohlenstoff eines Nukleotides gebunden ist, kann eine kovalente Bindung mit der 3o Hydroxylgruppe eines anderen Nucleotids bilden und so die beiden Nukleotide miteinander verbinden. Diese kovalente Bindung wird als Phosphodiesterbindung bezeichnet. Die Phosphodiester-Bindung zwischen den Nucleotiden erzeugt ein alternierendes Zucker-und Phosphat-Ger&#xFC;st in einer Polynukleotidkette. Die Verkn&#xFC;pfung des 5o Endes eines Nukleotids mit dem 3o Ende eines anderen Nukleotids verleiht der Polynukleotidkette eine Richtung. Sie spielt bei der DNA-Replikation und RNA-Synthese eine Schl&#xFC;sselrolle. An einem Ende der Polynukleotidkette, dem sogenannten 3o-Ende, hat der Zucker eine freie 3o-Hydroxylgruppe. Am anderen Ende, dem 5o Ende, hat der Zucker eine freie 5o Phosphatgruppe.
 
 <h4>Pyrimidine und Purine sind die Hauptklassen der Nukleinbasen</h4>
 
 Nukleinbasen sind Molek&#xFC;le mit einem oder zwei Ringen aus Kohlenstoff- und Stickstoffatomen. Diese Molek&#xFC;le werden Basen genannt; weil sie chemisch basisch sind und an Wasserstoffionen binden k&#xF6;nnen. Es gibt zwei Klassen von Nukleinbasen: Pyrimidine und Purine. W&#xE4;hrend die Pyrimidine eine sechsgliedrige Ringstruktur haben, bestehen die Purine aus einem sechsgliedrigen Ring, der mit einem f&#xFC;nfgliedrigen Ring verschmolzen ist. Zu den Pyrimidinen geh&#xF6;ren Cytosin (C), Thymin (T) und Uracil (U). Zu den Purinen geh&#xF6;ren Adenin (A) und Guanin (G).
 
 Cytosin, Adenin und Guanin sind sowohl in der DNA als auch in der RNA vorhanden. Thymin kommt dagegen nur in der DNA vor, w&#xE4;hrend Uracil nur in der RNA vorkommt. Die Purine und Pyrimidine k&#xF6;nnen miteinander Wasserstoffbr&#xFC;cken in einem bestimmten Muster bilden. Entscheidend hierf&#xFC;r ist das Vorhandensein von komplement&#xE4;ren chemischen Gruppen, welche man mit den komplement&#xE4;ren Teilen eines Puzzles vergleichen kann. Unter normalen zellul&#xE4;ren Bedingungen bildet Adenin Wasserstoffbindungen mit Thymin (in der DNA) oder Uracil (in der RNA), w&#xE4;hrend Guanin Wasserstoffbindungen mit Cytosin bildet. Diese komplement&#xE4;re Basenpaarung ist entscheidend f&#xFC;r die Struktur und Funktion der DNA.
 
 <h4>Die Struktur der DNA und RNA</h4>
 
 Die DNA nimmt innerhalb der Zelle eine Doppelhelix Struktur an. Eine Doppelhelix besteht aus zwei Polynukleotidketten, die sich spiralf&#xF6;rmig umeinanderwinden. Man nennt sie daher auch &#x201E;Str&#xE4;nge&#x201C;. Die beiden Str&#xE4;nge ordnen sich in entgegengesetzter Richtung zueinander an. Sie sind also antiparallel zueinander. Das bedeutet, dass das 5o Ende des einen Stranges nahe dem 3o Ende des anderen liegt. Die beiden Str&#xE4;nge werden durch komplement&#xE4;re Basenpaare (z.B. Cytosin mit Guanin) zusammengehalten.
 
 In einer DNA-Doppelhelix befindet sich das Zucker-Phosphat-Grundger&#xFC;st au&#xDF;en, w&#xE4;hrend die wasserstoffgebundenen Basen innen liegen. RNA kommt meist als einstr&#xE4;ngiges Molek&#xFC;l vor. Der RNA-Einzelstrang kann durch eine stranginterne komplement&#xE4;re Basenpaarung lokalisierte Sekund&#xE4;rstrukturen bilden. Verschiedene Arten von RNA-Sekund&#xE4;rstrukturen haben unterschiedliche Funktionen innerhalb der Zelle.
