Amine sind organische Derivate einer anorganischen Verbindung – Ammoniak, wobei ein oder mehrere Wasserstoffatome durch Alkyl- oder Arylgruppen ersetzt werden.
Sie werden als primäre, sekundäre oder tertiäre Amine klassifiziert, basierend auf dem Substitutionsgrad am Stickstoffatom.
Ist das Stickstoffatom an einen oder mehrere Alkylkohlenstoffe gebunden, wird das Amin als aliphatisches Amin eingestuft. Ist einer der gebundenen Kohlenstoffe Teil einer Arylgruppe, handelt es sich bei dem Amin um ein aromatisches Amin.
Amine, bei denen Stickstoff Teil einer Ringstruktur ist, werden als heterozyklische Amine bezeichnet. Wenn der Ring aromatisch ist, werden solche Amine als heterozyklische aromatische Amine klassifiziert.
Das Stickstoffatom kann auch vier Organylgruppen tragen. Solche Amine tragen eine formal positive Ladung und liegen als quartäre Ammoniumsalze vor.
Amine kommen in der Natur weit verbreitet vor und haben verschiedene physiologische Wirkungen. Zum Beispiel ist Kokain, ein tertiäres Amin, das aus Kokablättern gewonnen wird, ein Stimulans des Zentralnervensystems.

Amine sind organische Derivate von Ammoniak. Sie werden gebildet, indem ein oder mehrere Ammoniakprotonen durch Alkyl- oder Arylgruppen ersetzt werden. Je nach der Anzahl der an den Stickstoff gebundenen Organylgruppen werden Amine als primär, sekundär oder tertiär klassifiziert. Bei primären Aminen ist eine Organylgruppe an das Stickstoffatom gebunden, während bei sekundären und tertiären Aminen zwei bzw. drei Organylgruppen an das Stickstoffatom gebunden sind.

Wenn eine vierte Organylgruppe vorhanden ist, besitzt der Stickstoff eine formale positive Ladung. Solche Amine liegen als quaternäre Ammoniumsalze vor.

Amine werden auch in aliphatische und aromatische Amine unterteilt. Ein Amin ist aliphatisch, wenn nur Alkylgruppen an das Stickstoffatom gebunden sind. Ebenso wird ein Amin als heterocyclisches aromatisches Amin eingestuft, wenn der Stickstoff Teil eines aromatischen Rings ist.

Stickstoffhaltige Moleküle pflanzlichen Ursprungs werden als Alkaloide bezeichnet. Die meisten von ihnen sind im menschlichen Körper physiologisch aktiv. So kann beispielsweise die Einnahme von Coniin, einem heterozyklischen aliphatischen Amin, zu Atemproblemen, Schwäche und in schweren Fällen zum Tod führen. Kokain, ein tertiäres Amin, das aus den Blättern der Kokapflanze gewonnen wird, stimuliert das zentrale Nervensystem, wenn es konsumiert wird.

Amines are organic derivatives of ammonia. They form when one or more ammonia protons are replaced by alkyl or aryl groups. Chemists sort amines by the number of organyl groups attached to the nitrogen atom.

Primary amines have one organyl group on nitrogen. Secondary amines have two, and tertiary amines have three. If a fourth organyl group is present, the nitrogen carries a formal positive charge. These compounds are called quaternary ammonium salts.

Amines are also grouped as aliphatic or aromatic. An amine is aliphatic when only alkyl groups are bonded to the nitrogen atom. In an aromatic amine, at least one aryl group is bonded to nitrogen. If the nitrogen atom is part of a ring, the amine is classified as a heterocyclic amine.

Some heterocyclic amines are further divided by the type of ring they belong to. If nitrogen is the heteroatom in an aliphatic ring, the compound is a heterocyclic aliphatic amine. If nitrogen is part of an aromatic ring, it is a heterocyclic aromatic amine.

Many nitrogen-containing molecules from plants are called alkaloids. Most of these are physiologically active in the human body. Coniine is one example of a heterocyclic aliphatic amine, and ingestion can cause respiratory issues, weakness, or death in severe cases. Cocaine is a tertiary amine from coca plant leaves, and it stimulates the central nervous system when consumed.
