Anatomical Terminology

Die anatomische Standardterminologie wird universell verwendet, um die Struktur und innere Organisation des menschlichen Körpers zu untersuchen.
Diese Begriffe haben oft griechische oder lateinische Wurzeln, Präfixe oder Suffixe. Die Wurzel ist der zentrale Teil des Wortes, der sich auf ein Organ, Gewebe oder eine Erkrankung beziehen kann. 
Zum Beispiel bezieht sich die Wurzel Gastro auf den Magen. Durch das Hinzufügen von epi, also oben, als Präfix vor der Wurzel entsteht der Begriff epigastric, der die Lage oberhalb des Magens beschreibt.
Das Suffix, das es ist, bezieht sich auf eine Entzündung. Die Verknüpfung mit der Wurzel Arthro-, also Gelenke, bildet den Begriff Arthritis. In ähnlicher Weise bedeuten Bronchitis und Gastritis eine Entzündung eines Teils der Lunge bzw. des Magens.
In ähnlicher Weise verwenden Anatomen zum Verständnis der anatomischen Richtungen die standardmäßige anatomische Referenzposition. Wenn eine Person beispielsweise aufrecht mit dem Gesicht nach vorne steht, wird die Vorderseite des Körpers als vordere oder ventrale Seite und der Rücken als hintere oder dorsale Seite bezeichnet.
Das Herz befindet sich also vor der Wirbelsäule und hinter dem Brustbein.

Das Verständnis der Anatomie ist wichtig, um die menschliche Biologie und Medizin zu verstehen. Anatomen und Gesundheitsfachkräfte verwenden standardisierte Terminologie, um den menschlichen Körper präziser und eindeutig zu beschreiben. Anatomische Begriffe stammen größtenteils aus dem Griechischen und Lateinischen. Da diese Sprachen selten in Gesprächen verwendet werden, bleibt die Bedeutung der Wörter gleich. Jeder Begriff setzt sich aus einem Stamm zwischen den Präfixen und Suffixen zusammen. Der Stamm eines Begriffs bezieht sich oft auf ein Organ, Gewebe oder einen Zustand, während das Präfix oder Suffix den Stamm beschreibt. Zum Beispiel bedeutet das Präfix „hyper-„ in der Störung Hypertonie „hoch“ oder „über“, und das Stammwort „Spannung“ bezieht sich auf Druck, daher hängt das Wort „Hypertonie“ mit einem abnorm hohen Blutdruck zusammen. Anatomen standardisieren ihre Sichtweise auf den Körper. Die standardisierte anatomische Referenzposition ist aufrecht stehend mit parallelen Füßen, breiten Schultern und nach vorne gerichteten Zehen. Die oberen Gliedmaßen werden seitlich gehalten und die Handflächen zeigen nach vorne. Die Verwendung der standardisierten anatomischen Referenzposition zur Lokalisierung oder Bezugnahme auf Körperteile minimiert Verwirrung, insbesondere während routinemäßiger Untersuchungen und Eingriffe. Zum Beispiel befindet sich eine Narbe am Carpalknochen auf der Handflächenseite des Handgelenks. Wenn es um die Orientierung geht, wird der liegende Körper als „prone“ (mit dem Gesicht nach unten) oder „supine“ (mit dem Gesicht nach oben) bezeichnet. Darüber hinaus haben Körperregionen spezifische Begriffe, um den Ort, die Anzahl oder Farbe einer bestimmten Struktur, eines Organs oder Gewebes anzuzeigen. Zum Beispiel bezieht sich der Begriff „Brachium“ auf den „Oberarm“ und „Antebrachium“ wird anstelle von „Unterarm“ verwendet. Anatomical terms help describe the human body clearly in biology and medicine. Health care professionals and anatomists use this standard language to avoid confusion and to make descriptions more precise. Most anatomical words come from Greek and Latin roots, and these roots usually stay the same because the languages are rarely used in everyday conversation.

Many anatomical words are built from a root plus a prefix or suffix. The root often names an organ, tissue, or condition. The prefix or suffix then changes the meaning of that root. For example, in hypertension, the prefix &quot;hyper-&quot; means high or over, and the root &quot;tension&quot; refers to pressure. Together, the word means abnormally high blood pressure.

Anatomists also use a standard anatomical reference position to describe the body. In this position, a person stands upright with parallel feet, shoulders wide, toes forward, and the arms at the sides. The palms face ahead. Using this common position helps people locate body parts with less confusion during exams and procedures.

Orientation terms also matter when describing body position. A body lying face down is called prone, and a body lying face up is called supine. Location terms are used for specific regions as well. For example, brachium means upper arm, and antebrachium means forearm rather than lower arm. A scar on the carpal is on the palm side of the wrist, and terms such as superior and inferior help compare the head with the lower part of the body.

These terms are part of international standards used worldwide. Terminologia Anatomica, or TA, was developed by the Federative Committee on Anatomical Terminology and the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists and released in 1998. It replaced Nomina Anatomica. A related reference, Terminologia Histologica, or TH, was published in 2008 by the renamed Federative International Committee on Anatomical Terminology. TA covers about 7,500 gross anatomical structures, while TH covers cellular structures, tissue, and organs at the microscopic level.
