Titrimetrische Methoden sind quantitative Verfahren, die in der analytischen Chemie eingesetzt werden.
Bei volumetrischen Titrationen wird beispielsweise das Volumen eines Titriermittels mit bekannter Konzentration gemessen, das erforderlich ist, um vollständig mit einem Analyten zu reagieren.
Bei gravimetrischen Titrationen reagiert ein Analyt mit einem Titriermittel zu einem Niederschlag, der isoliert und gewogen wird.
Alternativ wird bei coulometrischen Titrationen die Ladung gemessen, die erforderlich ist, um eine elektrochemische Reaktion abzuschließen.
Zu den Strategien für die Titration gehört die direkte Titration, bei der ein Titriermittel mit einem Analyten reagiert, bis es den Endpunkt erreicht.
Andere Strategien kommen zum Einsatz, wenn die Reaktion langsam ist oder keine direkte Titrationsreaktion stattfindet.
Bei der Rücktitration wird der Überschuss einer Standardlösung, die zum Verzehr eines Analyten verwendet wird, durch Titration mit einer zweiten Standardlösung bestimmt.
Verdrängt der Analyt eine Gruppe aus einem Komplex, wird die Menge der verschobenen Gruppe mittels Verschiebungstitration bestimmt.

In der Chemie werden titrimetrische Methoden grob in drei Typen eingeteilt: volumetrisch, gravimetrisch und coulometrisch. Bei volumetrischen Titrationen wird das Volumen eines Titriermittels bekannter Konzentration gemessen, das erforderlich ist, um vollständig mit einem Analyten zu reagieren. Bei gravimetrischen Titrationen reagiert die Standardlösung mit dem Analyten und bildet einen unlöslichen Niederschlag, der filtriert, getrocknet und gewogen wird. Bei coulometrischen Titrationen wird Strom an eine elektrochemische Reaktion angelegt, bis die Reaktion abgeschlossen ist, und die für diese Reaktion erforderliche Ladung wird berechnet, um die Menge oder Konzentration des/der Reaktanten zu bestimmen.

Im Allgemeinen wird bei Titrationen dem Analyten ein Titriermittel mit bekannter Konzentration zugesetzt, bis der Analyt verbraucht ist, d. h. bis der Endpunkt erreicht ist. In diesem Fall spricht man von direkter Titration. In einigen Fällen kann die Reaktion zu langsam sein, als dass ein scharfer Endpunkt erreicht werden könnte. In solchen Fällen kommt die Rücktitration zum Einsatz. Bei einer Rücktitration lässt man den Analyten mit einer überschüssigen Menge einer Standardlösung reagieren und titriert die verbleibende Menge dieser Standardlösung mit einer zweiten Standardlösung. Anschließend kann die genaue Menge der ersten Standardlösung berechnet werden, die zur Reaktion mit dem Analyten erforderlich ist.

Manchmal lässt sich weder für eine direkte noch für eine indirekte (Rück-)Titration ein geeigneter Indikator finden. In diesem Fall kann die Verdrängungstitration eingesetzt werden, bei der der Analyt ein Reagenz, meist aus einem Komplex, verdrängt und das verdrängte Reagenz durch Titration gemessen wird.

Titrimetric methods use a standard solution to measure the amount of an analyte in chemistry. The main categories are volumetric, gravimetric, and coulometric methods. Each one reaches the endpoint in a different way.

In volumetric titrations, the key measurement is the volume of a titrant with a known concentration. The titrant is added until it reacts completely with the analyte. In gravimetric titrations, the standard solution forms an insoluble precipitate with the analyte. That solid is then filtered, dried, and weighed.

Coulometric titrations use electric current instead of measuring a liquid volume. Current is applied to drive an electrochemical reaction until it is complete. The charge needed for that reaction is then calculated to determine the amount or concentration of the reactant.

Most titrations stop when the analyte is used up at the endpoint, and this is called direct titration. If the reaction is too slow to give a sharp endpoint, back titration is used. In back titration, the analyte reacts with an excess of a standard solution, and the leftover amount is titrated with a second standard solution.

Sometimes neither direct titration nor back titration works well because no suitable indicator is available. In that case, displacement titration can be used. The analyte displaces a reagent, usually from a complex, and the displaced reagent is then measured by titration.
