Gut abgestufte Zuschlagstoffe enthalten alle erforderlichen Zuschlagstoffgrößenfraktionen in den Anteilen, die erforderlich sind, um eine dichte Matrix mit minimalen Hohlräumen zu bilden.
Die entsprechende Gradationskurve ist eine durchgehende, glatte Kurve, die einen breiten Bereich von Partikelgrößen anzeigt.
Wenn der Großteil der Zuschlagstoffe ein bestimmtes Sieb passiert und auf dem nächst feineren Sieb zurückgehalten wird, bedeutet dies, dass die Partikel überwiegend gleich groß sind.
Dies stellt ein einheitliches oder einstufiges abgestuftes Aggregat dar, das durch eine fast vertikale Linie auf der Gradationskurve dargestellt wird.
Zuschlagstoffe werden spaltklassiert, wenn ungefähr die gleichen Bruchteile von Zuschlagstoffen zwei verschiedene Siebe passieren, die sich in ihrer Größe erheblich unterscheiden, was auf das Fehlen von Zuschlagstoffen im mittleren Größenbereich hinweist und durch eine horizontale Linie auf der Abstufungskurve dargestellt wird.
Wenn feine Zuschlagstoffe fehlen, wird das Gemisch als offen eingestuft bezeichnet, was zu großen Hohlräumen zwischen den groben Partikeln führt. Die entsprechende Gradationskurve ist flach und im kleinen Größenbereich nahe Null.

Die Zusammensetzung von Gesteinskörnungen ist entscheidend, um auf wirtschaftliche Weise eine Betonmischung mit ausreichender Festigkeit, angemessener Verarbeitbarkeit und minimaler Entmischung zu erhalten. Es gibt vier Arten der Kornzusammensetzungen von Gesteinskörnungen: gut abgestuft, Einkorngemische, Ausfallkörnung und grobe Gesteinskörnung.


 Gut abgestufte Gesteinskörnungen umfassen ein vollständiges Spektrum der erforderlichen Größenfraktionen, die zusammenpassen, um eine dichte Matrix mit minimalen Hohlräumen zu bilden, die durch eine glatte, kontinuierliche Sieblinie dargestellt wird. Diese Art der Zusammensetzung gewährleistet eine gute Verarbeitbarkeit und Stabilität des Betons.


 Im Gegensatz dazu bestehen Einkorngemische oder gleichmäßig abgestufte Gesteinskörner überwiegend aus Partikeln derselben Größe, was an einer nahezu vertikalen Sieblinie erkennbar ist. Diese Gesteinskörnungen bieten zwar eine gute Durchlässigkeit, sind aber nicht stabil und werden typischerweise in speziellen Anwendungen wie Splittversiegelungen in Straßenbelägen verwendet.


 Ausfallkörnungen zeichnen sich durch das Fehlen bestimmter Größenfraktionen aus, wodurch ein erheblicher Teil der Partikel durch zwei völlig unterschiedliche Siebe gelangt. Dies führt zu einer Sieblinie mit einem nahezu horizontalen Abschnitt, was auf fehlende Zwischengrößen hinweist. Aufgrund der fehlenden Materialgrößen können diese Gesteinskörnungen zu Problemen mit der Betonstabilität führen.


 Grobe Gesteinskörnungen, denen kleinere Größen fehlen, die Hohlräume zwischen größeren Zuschlagstoffen füllen, weisen eine flache Sieblinie mit minimalen Werten im kleineren Größenbereich auf. Diese Zuschlagstoffe sind hochdurchlässig, weisen jedoch eine geringere Stabilität auf.

Types of Aggregate Grading

Aggregate grading describes the particle size distribution in a sample of aggregate. It is important for making a concrete mix that has enough strength, reasonable workability, and minimal segregation. The right grading also helps concrete stay economical.

There are four main types of aggregate gradation: well-graded, uniformly graded, gap-graded, and open-graded. Each type has a different pattern on a gradation curve, which shows how particle sizes are spread across sieve sizes. These patterns help explain how the aggregate will behave in concrete or other uses.

Well-graded aggregate contains a full range of particle sizes. The sizes fit together to form a dense matrix with minimal voids, and the gradation curve is smooth and continuous. This type of grading gives good workability and stability.

Uniformly graded, or one-sized, aggregate is made mostly of particles of the same size. Its gradation curve is nearly vertical. This type allows good permeability, but it does not provide much stability. It is used in specific applications such as chip seals in pavements.

Gap-graded aggregate is missing certain size fractions. As a result, a large amount of material may pass through two very different sieves, and the gradation curve shows a nearly horizontal section where sizes are missing. Because intermediate sizes are absent, this type can create stability problems in concrete.

Open-graded aggregate is missing the smaller sizes that would fill the spaces between larger particles. Its gradation curve is flat and shows very low values in the small size range. Open-graded aggregate is highly permeable, but it has reduced stability.
