Der Vebe-Test wird an Beton durchgeführt, um seine Verarbeitbarkeit zu ermitteln, vorzugsweise für Trockenmischungen.
Die Prüfvorrichtung besteht aus einer zylindrischen Kammer mit einem Durchmesser von neuneinhalb Zoll und einer Höhe von acht Zoll, einem Setzkegel und einem transparenten scheibenförmigen Reiter. Das gesamte Setup ist auf einem Rütteltisch positioniert.
Ein in den Zylinder eingesetzter Standard-Setzkegel wird auf herkömmliche Weise mit Beton gefüllt, und der Setzkegel wird entfernt, so dass der Frischbeton die Form eines Kegelstumpfes hat.
Dann wird ein 6 Pfund schwerer, transparenter, scheibenförmiger Reiter, der von der Vorrichtung getragen wird, auf den Betonkegel gelegt.
Mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 50 Takten pro Sekunde induziert der Rütteltisch eine vertikale Bewegung, um die Betonverdichtung im Zylinder zu erleichtern.
Beton im Zylinder gilt als vollständig verdichtet, wenn der transparente Reiter vollständig verdeckt ist, was darauf hinweist, dass keine sichtbaren Hohlräume auf der Betonoberfläche vorhanden sind.
Die Verarbeitbarkeit der Mischung, die durch die für die vollständige Betonverdichtung erforderliche Energie angegeben wird, wird in Vebe-Sekunden gemessen, d. h. in der Dauer des Betonübergangs von einer Sackkegelform zu einem Zylinder.

Der Vebe-Test ist eine Methode zur Messung der Verarbeitbarkeit von Beton, die besonders effektiv für trockene Betonmischungen ist. Bei diesem Test wird ein spezielles Gerät verwendet, das eine zylindrische Kammer, einen Standard-Setzkegel und einen transparente Scheibe umfasst, die alle auf einem Rütteltisch montiert sind. Die zylindrische Kammer hat Abmessungen von 24,13 cm im Durchmesser und 20,32 cm in der Höhe.


 Um den Test durchzuführen, wird Beton in den Setzkegel gegeben. Der Beton wird schichtweise eingefüllt und auf standardmäßige Weise verdichtet. Nach dem Einfüllen wird der Setzkegel entfernt, sodass der Beton in Form eines Kegelstumpfs im Zylinder zurückbleibt. Anschließend wird eine 2,72 kg schwere transparente Scheibe, die von dem Gerät getragen wird, auf den Betonkegel gelegt.


 Der Rütteltisch wird dann mit einer Frequenz von 50 Hertz aktiviert, um vertikale Bewegungen hervorzurufen, die den Beton verdichten. Die Verdichtung ist abgeschlossen, wenn die transparente Scheibe vollständig vom Beton verdeckt wird, was bedeutet, dass keine sichtbaren Hohlräume auf der Betonoberfläche vorhanden sind.


 Die Verarbeitbarkeit des Betons wird in Vebe-Zeit angegeben. Dies ist die Zeit, die der Beton benötigt, um unter Vibration von der anfänglichen kegelförmigen Slumpform in eine vollständig verdichtete zylindrische Form überzugehen. Diese Dauer spiegelt die Energie wider, die zur vollständigen Verdichtung erforderlich ist, und bietet ein Maß für die Verarbeitbarkeit des Betons. Höhere Vebe-Zeiten weisen auf eine geringere Verarbeitbarkeit hin, wodurch der Beton steifer und schwerer zu verdichten ist. Niedrigere Vebe-Zeiten deuten auf eine höhere Verarbeitbarkeit hin, wobei der Beton flüssiger und leichter zu handhaben und zu verdichten ist.

The Vebe test measures the workability of concrete, especially for dry mixes. Workability means how easy concrete is to handle and compact. The test uses a cylindrical chamber, a standard slump cone, and a transparent disc-shaped rider mounted on a vibrating table.

The cylindrical chamber measures nine and a half inches in diameter and eight inches in height. Concrete is placed into the slump cone in layers and compacted in the standard way. After the cone is removed, the concrete stays in the cylinder as a truncated cone.

A 6-pound transparent rider is then placed on top of the concrete cone. The vibrating table is turned on at 50 Hertz, which creates vertical movement and helps compact the concrete. The test is complete when the rider is fully hidden by the concrete, showing that no visible voids remain on the surface.

Workability is reported in Vebe seconds. This is the time it takes for the concrete to change from the slump cone shape to a fully compacted cylindrical shape under vibration. Higher Vebe seconds mean lower workability, so the concrete is stiffer and harder to compact. Lower Vebe seconds mean higher workability, so the concrete is more fluid and easier to handle and compact.
