Chronische Darmerkrankungen sind langfristige Erkrankungen, die den Verdauungstrakt betreffen, einschließlich Erkrankungen wie das Reizdarmsyndrom oder IBS und entzündliche Darmerkrankungen (CED).
Das Reizdarmsyndrom bringt chronische Bauchschmerzen und veränderte Stuhlgewohnheiten mit sich.
Es manifestiert sich entweder als Verstopfungs-prädominantes IBS-C mit verminderter Stuhlgangsfrequenz oder als diarrhoe-prädominantes IBS-D, gekennzeichnet durch wiederkehrende Bauchbeschwerden und häufigen weichen Stuhlgang.
Bei IBD handelt es sich um wiederkehrende chronische Darmentzündungen aufgrund von Immunangriffen eines überempfindlichen Immunsystems auf darmresidente Bakterien.
Dies löst Durchfall, Bauchschmerzen und Darmblutungen aus. Die primären IBD-Subtypen sind Colitis ulcerosa und Morbus Crohn.
Die Colitis ulcerosa betrifft vor allem den Enddarm und den Dickdarm mit einer kontinuierlichen Entzündung der Rektumschleimhaut.
Im Gegensatz dazu betrifft Morbus Crohn den gesamten Verdauungstrakt, wobei das terminale Ileum am häufigsten betroffen ist. Es verursacht eine diskontinuierliche transmurale Entzündung im gesamten Magen-Darm-Trakt, die zu Fibrose, Strikturen oder Fisteln führt.
