GIS-Software, -Hardware und GIS-Datenquellen

A Geographic Information System (GIS) manages, analyzes, and presents spatial data using specialized software.

It has a user-friendly interface and performs four key functions: database management, data retrieval, spatial analysis, and generation of output, such as maps and graphs.

GIS efficiently handles large datasets, transforming raw data into actionable insights for decision-making.

GIS hardware for spatial data collection includes computers, digitizers, scanners, and GPS-integrated handheld devices.

Digitizers and scanners convert physical maps into digital formats, while advanced vectorizing software refines raster data for analysis.

Output devices like printers and plotters produce high-quality maps and reports, supporting diverse GIS tasks from fieldwork to collaborative data sharing.

GIS data originates from agencies like USGS and NOAA, offering maps, aerial photos, and census data.

When existing data is insufficient, field collection employs GPS, surveying tools, and total stations for precise control points.

Satellite imagery and orthophotos further enhance geographic models, ensuring reliable and accurate datasets.
