Als Patients

ALS patients are individuals living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that damages motor neurons and affects movement, communication, and daily behavior. As upper and lower motor neurons deteriorate, patients may experience muscle weakness alongside changes in emotional expression, executive function, social conduct, or decision-making, although behavioral effects vary widely. Studying these changes helps clinicians distinguish neurological symptoms from understandable psychological responses to disability and supports comprehensive assessment. Behavioral evaluation can guide communication strategies, caregiver support, safety planning, and personalized care, while also improving research on ALS progression and the overlap between motor neuron disease and frontotemporal disorders.

The supply of type 2 diabetic islets for research is insufficient. Here we share our protocol for isolating islets from patients undergoing partial pancreatectomy. This approach represents a unique venue for obtaining islets from type 2 diabetic and clinically matched non-diabetic subjects in adequate numbers for basic and clinical studies.
