Cd54 Cd90 Enrichment

CD54 CD90 enrichment is a cell-selection strategy that increases the proportion of cells expressing the surface markers CD54, also known as ICAM-1, and CD90, or Thy-1, within a heterogeneous biological sample. It works by labeling these membrane proteins with specific antibodies and separating positive cells through methods such as magnetic-activated cell sorting or fluorescence-activated cell sorting. Enriched populations can support the characterization of cellular heterogeneity, investigation of cell adhesion and signaling, and isolation of candidate stromal or stem-like populations for downstream culture and functional studies. The approach helps researchers connect marker expression with phenotype, behavior, and tissue-specific biology.

2026

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Environmental enrichment involves objects and practices that encourage natural behaviors, improve psychological well-being, and promote better welfare in laboratory rodents. Environmental enrichment should be tailored to the...

Source: Okamoto, A., et al. Self-standing Electrochemical Set-up to Enrich Anode-respiring Bacteria On-site. J. Vis. Exp. (2018)This video demonstrates the use of an on-site electrochemical system to enrich anode-respiring bacteria (ARB) from natural reservoirs. A redox gradient is established by placing the anode in oxygen-free deep water and the cathode in oxygen-rich surface water. ARB form biofilms and transfer electrons to the anode, which flows to the cathode, where oxygen is reduced,...

Separation and Enrichment of Extracellular Vesicles in the Presence of Virions

Source: DeMarino, C., et al. Purification of High Yield Extracellular Vesicle Preparations Away from Virus. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)The video demonstrates the separation of EVs from virions and other contaminants by density gradient centrifugation, followed by capture and concentration with hydrogel nanoparticles. Washed fractions are then ready for downstream identification of those enriched in EVs.
