Frequency Response

Frequency response describes how a system’s output changes in amplitude and timing when it receives inputs that vary at different frequencies. In biological systems, researchers measure this behavior by applying periodic stimuli and comparing the resulting response magnitude and phase across frequencies, revealing filtering, resonance, adaptation, or delays. This analysis helps characterize sensory receptors, neural circuits, muscle and tissue mechanics, and physiological control systems. By identifying which frequencies a system amplifies, attenuates, or transmits, frequency response measurements connect cellular mechanisms to whole-organism behavior and support models of biological signal processing and rhythmic regulation.

The frequency response of a Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) in a common-emitter configuration is critical to its functionality, especially in applications involving amplification of alternating current (AC) signals. This response can be analyzed through low-frequency and high-frequency equivalent circuits, considering various internal parameters and external conditions. Low-Frequency Response: At low frequencies, the behavior of the BJT is determined by its DC bias point, which is set by the...

Operational amplifiers (op-amp) are used in signal conditioning, filtering, or for performing mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, integration, and differentiation. The frequency response of an op-amp is an important aspect that describes how the gain of the amplifier varies with frequency. Frequency Response and Gain: The gain of the op-amp, A(ω), is not a constant but a function of the input signal frequency. An op-amp can maintain a constant gain at low frequencies, known...
