Media Distribution

Media distribution is the controlled dispensing of biological culture media into plates, tubes, flasks, or other vessels so cells and microorganisms can grow under defined laboratory conditions. After preparation and sterilization, the medium is transferred aseptically in consistent volumes, then allowed to solidify when an agent such as agar is present; careful handling helps prevent contamination and supports comparable experimental conditions. In biology, media distribution underpins microbial culture, cell-based assays, isolation of colonies, and screening of physiological or genetic traits. Reliable distribution improves reproducibility and enables researchers to compare growth, responses, and phenotypes across samples.

Drug Distribution: Volume of Distribution

2023

The volume of distribution refers to the theoretical volume necessary to contain the entire amount of an administered drug at the same concentration observed in the blood plasma. The body's intracellular fluid compartment, which makes up two-thirds of the total body water, is contrasted with the extracellular fluid compartment—comprising plasma and interstitial fluid—that accounts for one-third. The volume of distribution can vary depending on the characteristics of the drug.

F Distribution

The F distribution was named after Sir Ronald Fisher, an English statistician. The F statistic is a ratio (a fraction) with two sets of degrees of freedom; one for the numerator and one for the denominator. The F distribution is derived from the Student's t distribution. The values of the F distribution are squares of the corresponding values of the t distribution. One-Way ANOVA expands the t test for comparing more than two groups. The scope of that derivation is beyond the level of this...

Species Distribution and Biogeography - Concepts

Species Distribution Biogeography is the study of species distribution across geographic space and the processes that shape these distributions. This discipline is based on the assumption that each species within a location must have immigrated from another geographic area or evolved from a local species. Within each habitat, a variety of biotic and abiotic factors act on individual species to shape birth, death, immigration, and emigration rates. To avoid local extinction, the combined birth...
