Split And Recombine

Split-and-recombine is a combinatorial synthesis strategy that generates large libraries of biological molecules from a limited set of building blocks. In each cycle, a bead-bound or otherwise partitioned population is divided into portions, exposed to different building blocks, and then pooled and mixed before the next round; repeated cycles create diverse peptides, peptidomimetics, or other compounds. Because individual beads can carry distinct molecular sequences, the resulting library can be screened for binding, catalytic activity, or other biological properties. This method supports ligand discovery, structure-function studies, and the identification of candidate molecules for biotechnology and biomedical research.

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California The study of how damage to the brain affects cognitive functioning has historically been one of the most important tools for cognitive neuroscience. While the brain is one of the most well protected parts of the body, there are many events that can affect the functioning of the brain. Vascular issues, tumors, degenerative diseases, infections, blunt force traumas, and neurosurgery are just some of the...

Recombineering Homologous Recombination Constructs in Drosophila

2013

Homologous recombination techniques greatly advance Drosophila genetics by enabling the creation of molecularly precise mutations. The recent adoption of recombineering allows one to manipulate large pieces of DNA and transform them into Drosophila6. The methods presented here combine these techniques to rapidly generate large homologous recombination vectors.

Stock Split

A stock split is a corporate action aimed at increasing the number of a company's shares by dividing its existing shares into multiple new ones. This adjustment reduces the per-share price without altering the company's overall market capitalization, thereby making shares more affordable to investors and enhancing trading flexibility. Stock splits are often employed by companies whose stock prices have risen significantly, making their shares less accessible to retail investors. Lowering the...

This video demonstrates how to maintain the growth of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) in feeder cell-free conditions and how to continuously passage hESCs in feeder cell-free conditions. Confirmation of hESC pluripotency grown in feeder cell-free conditions by immunofluorescence microscopy is also demonstrated. Part 2 of 3.

Recombineering and Gene Targeting

One of the most widely used tools in modern biology is molecular cloning with restriction enzymes, which create compatible ends between DNA fragments that allow them to be joined together. However, this technique has certain restrictions that limit its applicability for large or complex DNA construct generation. A newer technique that addresses some of these shortcomings is recombineering, which modifies DNA using homologous recombination (HR), the exchange between different DNA molecules based...
