Microarray Technique

The microarray technique is a high-throughput method for measuring the abundance or sequence-specific presence of many nucleic acids at once, making it useful for comparing biological samples. It works by immobilizing thousands of known DNA probes on a solid surface, applying fluorescently labeled sample DNA or RNA, and detecting hybridization between complementary sequences; signal intensity indicates the relative amount of a target. In biology, microarrays support gene-expression profiling, genotyping, disease classification, and analysis of cellular responses to environmental or experimental conditions. Although sequencing offers broader resolution, microarrays remain valuable for standardized, efficient analysis of defined sets of genes or variants.

2023

Microarrays are important tools for profiling gene expression, and are based on complementary binding between probes that are attached to glass chips and nucleic acids derived from samples. Using these arrays, scientists can simultaneously evaluate the expression of thousands of genes. In addition, the expression profiles of different cells or tissue types can be compared, allowing researchers to deduce how the expression of different genes change during biological processes, and thus gain...
