Root Tissue Harvest

Root tissue harvest is the collection of plant root material for examining structure, composition, growth, or responses to environmental conditions. The process typically involves carefully removing roots from soil or a growth medium, separating them from surrounding material, and preserving or preparing the tissue for measurements such as imaging, weighing, biochemical analysis, or molecular assays. In biology, root tissue harvest supports studies of nutrient uptake, root development, plant–microbe interactions, and stress responses, including changes caused by drought, salinity, or pathogens. Consistent sampling methods help researchers compare root traits across treatments, developmental stages, and plant species.

The use of cell lines and tissue cultures that originated from research animals is a replacement technique, as it allows for many experiments to be conducted in vitro. Harvesting...

A Technique for Harvesting and Dissociating Dorsal Root Ganglia for Neuronal Cultures

This video demonstrates a method for harvesting neurons from the dorsal root ganglia (DRG). DRG from a rat's spinal column is isolated, treated with enzymes, and then mechanically dissociated to obtain a single-cell suspension. The neurons are separated from glial cells using density gradient centrifugation and cultured in a growth medium.

University of Notre Dame, IN Many animal experiments rely on final data collection time points that are gathered from the harvesting and testing of organs and tissues. The use of appropriate methods for the collection of organs and tissues can impact the quality of the samples and the analysis of the data that is gleaned for the testing of the tissues. The method of euthanasia of the animal can also impact the quality of...
