Fluorescent Antibody Detection

Fluorescent antibody detection is a method for locating or measuring specific proteins, cells, or tissue features by using antibodies linked to fluorescent dyes, making molecular targets visible and biologically interpretable. In direct detection, a fluorophore-conjugated antibody binds its target antigen and emits light after excitation at a suitable wavelength; indirect detection uses an unlabeled primary antibody and a fluorescent secondary antibody to amplify the signal. In cancer research, this approach supports immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and tissue profiling to identify tumor markers, characterize immune-cell populations, assess protein expression, and monitor changes during disease progression or treatment. These measurements help connect molecular patterns with cancer diagnosis, classification, and therapeutic response.

The protocol described here outlines a fast and effective method for measuring neutralizing antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein by evaluating the ability of convalescent serum samples to inhibit infection by an enhanced green fluorescent protein-labeled vesicular stomatitis virus pseudotyped with spike glycoprotein.

A Technique to Detect Cyanobacterial Strains Using an Antibody Microarray Chip

This video demonstrates a method to detect the Cyanobacterial strains in an environmental sample using an antibody microarray chip. Samples carrying various bacteria interact with printed antibodies, and immunostaining with fluorophore-labeled anti-cyanobacterial-strain antibodies reveals the presence of specific cyanobacterial strains through fluorescence in distinct spots.

2025

Multiplex fluorescence immunoassays are becoming a reference for serology testing. Their application, however, is limited by the complexity and time-consuming bead-analyte coupling processes. This report presents a semi-automated, reproducible multiplex microsphere bead coupling protocol that is comparable to the standard method while considerably reducing time to results.
