Fluorine-19 Nmr

Fluorine-19 NMR is a nuclear magnetic resonance technique that detects the naturally abundant, spin-1/2 fluorine-19 isotope to characterize fluorine-containing molecules and their molecular environments. In a magnetic field, fluorine-19 nuclei absorb radiofrequency energy and produce signals whose chemical shifts, spin-spin couplings, and relaxation behavior reflect bonding and nearby atoms; because fluorine-19 is highly sensitive, it can often be observed at low concentrations. In chemistry, the method helps identify compounds, distinguish regioisomers, monitor reactions, and study molecular structure and dynamics. It is also valuable for tracing fluorinated substrates and evaluating fluorine-containing pharmaceuticals, materials, and environmental contaminants.
