Nanoparticle Chains

Nanoparticle chains are one-dimensional assemblies in which nanoscale particles connect end-to-end or side-by-side, creating collective structures with properties distinct from those of individual particles. In chemistry, chain formation is controlled by particle size, shape, surface chemistry, and directional forces such as magnetic or electrostatic interactions; ligand-mediated attraction or an applied field can guide alignment and stabilize the assembly. These structures provide tunable pathways for charge, energy, or magnetic coupling and support applications in chemical sensing, catalysis, photonic materials, and responsive nanocomposites. Understanding their formation helps researchers design nanoscale materials with programmable structure and function.

Electron Transport Chains

2019

The final stage of cellular respiration is oxidative phosphorylation that consists of two steps: the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis. The electron transport chain is a set of proteins found in the inner mitochondrial membrane in eukaryotic cells. Its primary function is to establish a proton gradient that can be used during chemiosmosis to produce ATP and generate electron carriers, such as NAD+ and FAD, that are used in glycolysis and the citric acid cycle. The ETC is comprised of...
