Uncharged Molecules

Uncharged molecules are chemical species with a net electrical charge of zero, a defining feature that influences their structure, interactions, and behavior in chemistry. They form when the total number of positively charged protons is balanced by negatively charged electrons, although their atoms may still share electrons unequally and produce polar bonds or molecular dipoles. Neutral molecules participate in covalent bonding, acid-base and redox reactions, and intermolecular forces, while their polarity affects solubility, boiling point, and movement across membranes. Understanding these properties supports chemical analysis, molecular design, materials development, and the interpretation of biological and environmental processes.

Here we present a method for directly measuring transfer RNA charging levels from purified Escherichia coli RNA as well as a way to compare relative levels of transfer RNA, or any other short RNA, across different samples based on the addition of spike-in cells expressing a reference gene.

We describe a process using laser-capture microdissection to isolate and extract RNA from a homogeneous cell population, pyramidal neurons, in layer III of the superior temporal gyrus in postmortem human brains. We subsequently linearly amplify (T7-based) mRNA, and hybridize the sample to the Affymetrix human X3P microarray.

Photoelectric Effect

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics && Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN Photoelectric effect refers to the emission of electrons from a metalwhen light is shining on it. In order for the electrons to be liberated from the metal, the frequency of the light needs to be sufficiently high such that the photons in the light have sufficient energy. This energy is proportional to the light frequency. The photoelectric effect provided the...
