Zebrafish Cardiac Imaging

Zebrafish cardiac imaging is the visualization and analysis of heart formation, structure, and function in zebrafish, a widely used model for developmental biology. Because embryos are small and optically accessible, researchers can use live microscopy and fluorescent markers to track cardiac cells, observe heart tube formation, and measure changes in cardiac movement and blood flow over time. These approaches reveal how genes and signaling pathways regulate cardiogenesis, while also enabling studies of congenital heart defects, cardiac regeneration, and drug responses. Imaging-based analysis therefore connects cellular processes with whole-organ development in a vertebrate model.

Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana In this video, high field, small-bore magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with physiological monitoring is demonstrated to acquire gated cine loops of the murine cardiovascular system. This procedure provides a basis for assessing left-ventricular function, visualizing vascular networks, and quantifying motion of organs due to respiration. Comparable small animal...

The sensitivity gain inherent to ultrahigh field magnetic resonance holds promise for high spatial resolution imaging of the heart. Here, we describe a protocol customized for functional cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) at 7 Tesla using an advanced multi-channel radio-frequency coil, magnetic field shimming and a triggering concept.
