Active Fluid Preparation

Active fluid preparation is the engineering process of producing fluids that contain energy-generating or responsive components, enabling them to behave differently from conventional passive liquids. Preparation typically combines an active phase, such as motile particles or field-responsive inclusions, with a carrier fluid at controlled concentrations and conditions; energy consumption or external stimulation then generates internal stresses, motion, or changes in flow behavior. Engineers use these fluids to study nonequilibrium transport, self-organization, mixing, and tunable rheology. Reliable preparation and characterization support the development of adaptive materials, microfluidic systems, soft robotics, and other technologies that harness fluid activity.

2017

A method for mass spectrometric analysis of endogenous peptides in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is presented. By employing molecular weight cut-off filtration, chromatographic pre-fractionation, mass spectrometric analysis and a subsequent combination of peptide identification strategies, it was possible to expand the known CSF peptidome nearly ten-fold compared to previous studies.
