Admittance Sum

Admittance sum is the process of combining the admittances of electrical branches, especially in parallel circuits, to determine the network’s total ease of conducting alternating current. Because admittance is the reciprocal of impedance, each branch contributes a complex value expressed as conductance plus susceptance, and these values add directly: Y_total = Y₁ + Y₂ + … + Yₙ. Engineers use admittance sums in AC circuit analysis, nodal analysis, and frequency-dependent network design to calculate total current, voltage relationships, and power behavior. This approach simplifies complex parallel networks and supports the evaluation of filters, loads, and other electrical systems.

Shunt Admittances

Shunt admittances play a crucial role in the analysis of transmission lines, particularly for three-phase systems with neutral conductors. When a uniformly charged conductor is positioned above the Earth, it induces an equal but opposite charge on its surface. This interaction creates electric field lines between the conductor and the Earth. To model this effect, the method of images is employed. This method involves replacing the Earth with an image conductor that mirrors the original...

Zero-Sum and Non-Zero-Sum Game

Within game theory, games can be categorized as zero-sum or non-zero-sum games, based on how gains and losses are distributed among players. In a zero-sum game, one player's gain equals another player's loss, meaning the total amount of resources or benefits remains constant. For example, in a bidding war for a contract, if one company wins, the other loses out entirely, reflecting the fixed outcome of zero-sum games. Non-zero-sum games differ because gains and losses are not perfectly...

Impedances and Admittance

In the realm of AC circuits, passive circuit elements like resistors, inductors, and capacitors take on a different character when characterized by phasor voltage and current. Their behavior is expressed through impedance, a vital concept in AC circuit analysis. Impedance is a measure of resistance to sinusoidal current flow in an AC circuit. Unlike their behavior in DC circuits, where inductors appear as short circuits and capacitors as open circuits, the behavior of these components in AC...

In definite integration, Riemann sums approximate the area under a curve by dividing it into subintervals and summing the areas of rectangles. When these approximations follow predictable numerical patterns, such as arithmetic or polynomial sequences, sum formulas offer a more efficient and accurate way to compute the result. In particular, the sum of consecutive integers, squares, and cubes plays an essential role in simplifying these calculations, especially when dealing with uniform...

Lump-Sum Transfers

Lump-sum transfers help redistribute wealth without altering people’s work or consumption choices. Unlike taxes or subsidies, which change behavior by making certain activities more or less costly, lump-sum transfers provide a fixed amount regardless of earnings, spending, or labor decisions. Because they do not distort incentives, they allow markets to allocate resources efficiently while addressing initial inequalities in wealth distribution. The Second Welfare Theorem suggests that society...
