Electrical Resonance

Electrical resonance is the condition in which inductive and capacitive effects in an electrical circuit balance at a particular frequency, producing a pronounced response that is important in engineering. In an RLC circuit, resonance occurs when inductive reactance equals capacitive reactance, causing the reactive components to cancel; the resonant frequency is determined by the inductance and capacitance, while resistance controls the sharpness and magnitude of the response. Engineers use electrical resonance to tune radios, design filters, select communication signals, and create oscillators. Understanding resonance also helps prevent excessive currents or voltages in power systems and electronic devices.

The Lewis structure of a nitrite anion (NO2−) may actually be drawn in two different ways, distinguished by the locations of the N-O and N=O bonds. If nitrite ions do indeed contain a single and a double bond, the two bond lengths are expected to be different. A double bond between two atoms is shorter (and stronger) than a single bond between the same two atoms. However, experiments show that both N–O bonds in NO2− have the same strength and length, and are identical in all other...

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN Electric potential, also known as "voltage", measures the electric potential energy per unit charge. Electric field is a scalar quantity and is fundamental to many electrical effects. Like potential energy, what is physically meaningful is the difference in the electric potential. For example, the spatial variation in the electric potential is related to the electric...
