Gaussian Splatting

Gaussian Splatting is a computer graphics and computer vision technique that represents a three-dimensional scene as a collection of soft, oriented Gaussian elements, enabling efficient image-based rendering. During reconstruction, the method estimates each Gaussian’s position, scale, orientation, color, and opacity from calibrated images, then projects and blends these elements in depth order to synthesize new viewpoints. Unlike conventional polygon meshes, this representation can capture complex geometry and appearance while supporting rapid rendering. In engineering, Gaussian Splatting assists with 3D reconstruction, robotics and spatial mapping, digital twins, visualization, and inspection, offering a practical way to model real environments from photographic data.

Systems of linear equations in several variables are pivotal in modeling complex scenarios involving multiple unknowns and constraints. Such systems are widely used in various fields to represent relationships where several conditions must be simultaneously satisfied. Each variable in the system corresponds to an unknown quantity, while each equation imposes a linear constraint, leading to a structured approach for analyzing and solving real-world problems.A system of three equations with three...

We describe a rapid and effective method for purification of mitochondria from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This method enables the high-yield isolation of pure mitochondria that are essentially free of contamination by other organelles and retain their structural and functional integrity after their purification.

Source: Gouder, et. al. Three-dimensional Quantification of Dendritic Spines from Pyramidal Neurons Derived from Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells. J. Vis. Exp. (2015).This video demonstrates the imaging and analysis of dendritic spines in transduced, immunolabeled pyramidal neurons using confocal microscopy. Background noise is reduced, and dendrites are traced by estimating their diameter and length. Automated spine segmentation involves setting parameters for dendrite and spine dimensions...
