Paddy Leaf Diseases

Paddy leaf diseases are infections and disorders that damage rice foliage, reduce photosynthetic capacity, and threaten crop yield, making their timely identification important for crop management. Fungal, bacterial, or viral agents can colonize leaf tissues and produce characteristic symptoms such as spots, blights, streaks, discoloration, and lesions, with disease development influenced by moisture, temperature, and host susceptibility. In engineering, these visible patterns support image-processing and computer-vision systems that segment leaves, extract color or texture features, and classify disease severity from field or laboratory images. Such tools can assist rapid scouting, targeted treatment, and precision agriculture while reducing dependence on labor-intensive visual diagnosis.

Establishment of Rice Plant Leaf Infection through Fungal Inoculation via Wounding

2025

This video demonstrates the establishment of rice plant leaf infection through wounding inoculation with Magnaporthe grisea mycelium. The fungal spore-derived germ tube penetrates the epidermal layer, resulting in tissue infection and lesions on the leaves. This method aids pathotype screening and improves plant resistance understanding for molecular breeding.
