Selective Harmonic Elimination

Selective Harmonic Elimination is a power-electronics technique that shapes an inverter’s output voltage by suppressing selected unwanted harmonic components while preserving the desired fundamental waveform. It works by calculating precise switching angles within each cycle and solving harmonic equations so the inverter cancels targeted frequency terms, often while controlling the fundamental voltage. Applied to multilevel and other power inverters, the method reduces waveform distortion, filter requirements, electromagnetic interference, and power losses in systems such as motor drives, renewable-energy converters, and grid-connected equipment. Its mathematical control strategy supports efficient power conversion and improved power quality without relying solely on bulky passive filters.

Eliminating specific cells without damaging other cells is extremely difficult, especially in established tissue, yet there is an urgent need for a cell elimination method in the tissue engineering field. Here, we present a method for specific cell elimination from a mixed 3D cell culture using near infrared photoimmunotherapy (NIR-PIT).

Harmonic Mean

2023

The arithmetic mean is usually skewed towards the larger values in the data set. Therefore, to avoid this inherent bias towards smaller values, the harmonic mean is used. Take the example of the speed of a car, which is the measure of the rate of distance traveled. If the vehicle traverses the same distance back-and-forth, its average speed equals the total distance traveled divided by the total time taken. However, if the car moves with varying speeds, then the arithmetic mean is more skewed...
